Bert Trautmann - R.I.P

Time to do what should have been done a while ago and name a stand after him.

R.I.P a true Blue legend.
+1 Growing up and learning about City's history, he was the first person to stand out for me. My first City hero. For all the attention the FA Cup final with the broken neck will get (and rightly so) it should not be overlooked what he did for English/German relations following the war. RIP big man. A true legend of the game on and off the field.

Unmittelbar, nachdem sein Tod am Freitag bekannt geworden war, forderten erste ManCity-Fans im Internet, dass die Südtribüne im City of Manchester Stadium nach Bert Trautmann benennt werden soll.

(Shortly after his death was announced on Friday, City Fans on the internet wished that the south stand should be named after him.)

Very sad day. A true City legend passed away. Wish I could have seen the man play and watch his magnificent saves. Happy to know he was there when we lifted the cup as CL-winners last year.
I hope and expect staff and players at the club will organize a big tribute for the man.

RIP

I was 10 years old, autograph hunting at Maine Road, pre-season 1960, when I first met and spoke to Bert. I'll always remember his soft voice and huge hands. It was a few years later that I had the honour of shaking Bert's hand in the Social Club. Some fond memories: 1962, after West Ham scored, Bert half-volleyed the ball into the refs back, he gets sent off and then throws his shirt into the ground at the refs feet. 1964, in what was to be his last home game, a flying backwards fingertip save against Norwich. Finally, in his testimonial match, Maurice Setters calling him out for a back pass, only to chip him, own goal. He wasn't very happy.

RIP, Bert, a Big Man, in every sense.

A true City legend, never forgotten in the history of our great club.

My neighbour a Leicester fan is gutted, remembers watching the big man as he grew up and reckons one of the legends of the English game .

Bert brings all football fans together showing their respect which he should be proud
