With respect ste, I think you're missing the point.

"Best you've attended" can't mean "Any simple minds gig" unless you've been permanently on the road??

The Who at the Elizabethan Hall (Belle Vue) circa 1974, unbelievable Jeff

That was my third concert, and still one of the most memorable.

My two favourite gigs, with little to choose between them were:

Kiss at the Free Trade Hall on 3 May 1976. At that point they were something quite incredible to see and the atmosphere at the FTH was electric.

Talking of atmosphere, I have never been in a crowd that was as noisy as Van Halen on their first visit to Madison Square Garden in the summer of 1981. I've never seen a more magnetic performance by a front-man than David Lee Roth on that night (which was the seventh time I'd seen VH) and I've seen Bowie, Jagger, Plant, Mercury... The whole band were on top form though. We had seats on the sixth row, just behind a make-up less Eric Carr,

Oasis at my beloved Maine Road with a City hat on two days before I hit 18.
We won at Villa Park the same day to mean we lived to fight another day in our ultimately doomed relegation battle. The same touts were grafting on both concourses - one shift in the afternoon, the other in the evening: no rest for the wicked!

I remember Liam eulogising about Patsy Kensit between songs which shows how long ago it was.

I drove up to Villa Park from Oxford and then from there to Maine Road. Great day; shame about the following weekend.

-- Thu Nov 14, 2013 2:03 pm --

probably the first gig I ever went to at Blackburn King Georges Hall - Buzzcocks supported by Joy Division!!

I challenge anyone to better that as a first live gig?

Yup...Mott The Hoople, supported by Queen...

Bit jealous of that one. Off to see Mott on Monday.

My first gig was T.Rex at Belle Vue at their peak.

The who at Belle vue was 1975 just checked the tour program Steve Gibbons band opened for them.
Thin Lizzy bad reputation tour 1977 Free trade Hall
Blue Oyster Cult 1978 Free trade Hall. Laser beams for the first time ever god I was impressed. R.I.P Alan Lannier.
Pearl Jam to many times, never a bad show.
Big Country Final Fling tour at the Barras still brings a tear to my eye. R.I.P Stuart
One that got a great reception on here Chris Cornell at the Lowery
Neil Young and Crazy horse Newcastle this year.
Garth Brookes in Dublin was one hell of a show.

I saw Garth Brooks a couple of times and he was superb.

Not seen Cornell.

Neil Young was really good this year.

And going back to the FTH, I saw Big Country there and that was also a great gig.

Met Lizzy after that FTH gig: they just let a load us who were waiting at the stage door to get autographs into the backstage area.

Some other personal faves:

Springsteen at Wembley Stadium - Born in USA tour.

Queen at Bingley Hall - Day at Races tour; the gig that inspired We Are The Champions due to the crowd response.

Rush R30 Tour at NEC

Zep at Knebworth

Rainbow at FTH

Black Sabbath supported by Van Halen at the Apollo in '78

Kiss at Bingley Hall in 1980

Michael Jackson at Leeds Roundhay Park 1988

Prince at the O2 dome

Flaming Lips at the Apollo twice!

Worst gigs -
Dylan at MEN Arena
RHCP Etihad
Prince Maine Rd

Have the RHCP ever done a decent gig? Ive seen them twice, once at a festival and once in manchester and they were awful. Everyone i have ever spoken to whos seen them has said they were shit too. Both times ive seen them and they havent played under the bridge! Fuckers
They were excellent when they supported U2 at slane castle, probably cause it was a support slot, so a condensed set with no bollocking around just the hits

The whole COMS gig was awful. The support band(cant remember who) were booed off and gave the crowd the middle finger. James Brown was there and absolutely terrible. Then the Chilli's turned on the stadium mid-set for booing their support band. Really bad gig.

Please don't laugh- james blunt at the Apollo. Had a great night!!!

Springsteen in Leeds on same tour was special.

Would love to have seen Rainbow, Blackmore is an absolute genius. Remember seeing Purple years ago at NEC, it was seated on the floor area but with everyone standing. Blackmore was stage right & the whole crowd was focussed on him all night, virtually ignoring Gillian and the rest. The only time I've ever seen the like at a gig.
