tony williams was just the most musical of the virtuoso drummers to me, he had a similar level of speed and technique as buddy rich, but his creativity and the feel he had for the music was just off the scale

Ancient thread but Matt Holders from Arctic Monkeys is a quality current drummer and a backing vocalist to boot. Ripping up the main stage at T in the Park at the minute (BBC3).

Not an expert on drumming. For example, I dont see what a perfect "drumming technique" can do. If Keith Moon was a great drummer, then his technique must have been pretty damn good.
But Matt Helders is a brilliant drummer. A View From The Afternoon is the perfect example.

Reni in elephant stone amazing!!
My mate from Hartlepool who plays the drums in a band swears by Reni being the best drummer and even eclipsing Keith Moon. In elephant stone you can hear him going ten to the dozen with the foot pedal which apparently is genius if you appreciate how to play the drums

I'm a drummer and the footwork on it is second to none, stunning.
but seriously if you think the foot work is good on elephant stone, listen to 98% of dream theater songs and listen to the footwork by Mike Portnoy. on a different level to Reni. and i'm not just saying that cause he's my favourite.
