Best goal you've ever seen in the flesh?

Just remembered another couple.
Sergio's 2nd against Swansea in his 1st Etihad game.
Sergio again v Liverpool from an impossible angle at Etihad.

Obviously most of the best over the last 40 years have already been mentioned. Joe Corrigan's returned to Maine Road with Brighton around 1984. Pretty sure Jim Tolmie's scored an long distance audacious chip against the great man. Thought it was brilliant myself.

i may be on the wrong goal but it may have been graham baker.
perhaps gary james could help on this.

Definitely Melrose...I was in the North Stand behind it.

Jim (Seamus) McDonagh (ex-Bolton Wanderers) in goal for Notts County.

Tremendous goal...my choice as well.

There was a goal that I just about remember Rodney March scoring at Maine Road where he juggled the ball in the air a few times, then brought the ball down, turned and smacked it into the net, so long ago though that I can't remember who it was against

Just for you

Loved the way Summerbee went into that 50:50. He'd get about 10 reds a season if he played today.

How unfit did that ref look?

As others have said, Jim Melrose for City Maine Road in December 1984-85 season v Notts County.
Running he took the ball on his chest on the half way line in the centre circle and as the ball dropped he vollied it in from about 56 yards (Remember the Maine Road pitch playing area was 116.5 yard long). The ball looked as though it was destined to go high and wide past one post with the keeper covering it but the ball dipped and swerved viciously at the end to go in the top corner by the other post.

Newcastle 72-73?

I think you mean the Baker goal at Tottenham at the start of 82-83, which I've seen on You tube somewhere.

The Brighton game, when Corrigan was chipped, was the following season. I thought it was Tolmie, but I'd have to check.

Dave Watson versus Ipswich at Maine Road 1976/77 season.

A bullet header he met full on and it arrowed into the net from about 15 yards. Don't know why it sticks in my mind as I've seen some fantastic individual and team goals over the years. It was just the awsome power and fact that we were up with Ipswich who were top and Liverpool for the title, finished second to Liverpool in the end. Think it was a Barnes corner, packed ground, great atmosphere and the winner...!

He did that several times. The Southampton one posted above is one example, but I remember him bringing the ball down out of the air, from a corner kick, juggling it around then spinning & smacking it in the net vs West Ham. Incredible. That was the first game of the season in about '75. I seem to recall other similar goals but not sure who against.

Franny Lee from the free kick in Charity Shield against West Brom (August, 1968). Meaningless match, but truly the slickest thing I've ever seen in my life. West Brom defence went cross-eyed trying to work out what was happening.
I wasn't there for Kun's astounding goal against Liverpool two seasons back, but that would have to be up there competing.

To clear up the earlier post about David Rocastle's blinding bit of skill down the right touchline to create a goal, the scorer who turned the ball in was Carl Griffiths - it was v Ipswich on Feb 5th 1994.
It was the last goal that Griffiths ever scored for us (he only got four). I remember it well. It was indeed outstanding. It's not often that one flash of sheer magic sticks in the memory for 20 years. I don't suppose anyone can post a vid of it?
Well remembered, Sabbs.

Oh yes, who could forget Carl griffiths.
I've searched for this goal and can not find it anywhere. Real class from rocky. Would fit into this team today he would.

Think that was chairman Lee's first match.

Yes your right it was. Should have known it would be a disaster when the game got abandoned due to the rain!
Typical city style!
