Best/worst cup game?

Nowhere near the worst for me! We played quite well that day and even after they scored in the 89th minute (Gary Lund - I was working with his uncle at the time!) we still hit the woodwork!

For me it was Lincoln away 4-1 defeat, think it was league cup.
My first ever game, Southampton away in a Milk Cup replay, circa 1982, Graham Baker, ex-Saint was playing for us, we hit the post in the first 30 seconds and battered them all first half, yet went in 1-0 down. We lost 4-0 and it absolutely pissed down, at least it was only 20 minutes to home for me, felt sorry for the lads and lasses that made the trip down!

Also September 19th 1989, losing 2-1 away to Brentford in the League Cup, I went to the Portsmouth-yoonited game the next night too, rags were 3-0 up at half time (finished 2-3) and singing 'City, you are next, City, City you are next.... we all know what happened on the following Saturday (plus we beat Brentford 4-1 second leg iirc!)

Best, probably spuds away, 3-0 down, Sir Joseph of Barton sent off at half time and coming back to win 3-4....Macken!!! The semi vs the rags, how quick did they empty the stadium???!!! Sunderland League Cup Final was great too just for the sheer quality of Yaya and Samir's goals.
Harper hit the bar

Don't know if its been mentioned but Sheffield United with those bloody balloons took the piss a few years back.

The worst was the 1981 Cup Final and replay. Followed by the final against Wigan and then the final against Wolves.

The best cup game outside a final was at the swamp when Buzzer scored an equaliser that Stepney should not have gone for.

Noting can be worse that Wigan in the cup final.
The only thing that runs it close for me is getting beat by Cardiff away on the day Franny took over. We were shit. Alfonse Groenendijk in our team. Drove down there and encountered a load of inbred sheep shaggers who were wielding planks of wood looking for a fight after the game. Flat tyre on the way home..... At least v Wigan I was pissed.

Haha sounds like a shit day fella :(

It probably says a lot about my mentality as a City fan that when I first saw this thread title all the worst ones came to the fore straight away! Some horrible memories of witnessing cup defeats at Oldham, Blackburn, Sheffield United and the Wigan Cup Final are circling but the one that always sticks in my head is Notts County. It was my first season of being allowed to watch City away and I went to the wins at Burney and Port Vale in the 3rd & 4th rounds and was utterly convinced it was our year. We battered them for 90 minutes hitting the post about 5 times then got a corner in the last minute and for some reason even though it was 0-0 and we'd have been happy with a replay we sent pretty much everyone up for it.......

Best has to be the rag semi-final. An amazing day and as a natural pessimist totally unexpected!
