Better Call Saul

Changing the subject a bit, who remembers Mike from when he was in Beverley Hills Cop? 36 years ago!

He was a right prick in that if I remember right

Finally started watching this, never fancied it even though BB is in my top three shows.

Felt S1 was slow with a few little bits that kept me interested. S2 got better as it went on.

Just finished S3 and really enjoying it now. Glad its not all about Saul/Jimmy. Mike/Gus make the show so far for me.

The bit at the beginning of S3 where Mike is staking out that place after following the cars and the camera pans out to show its Los Pollos, was superb cinematography and story telling. Gilligan knew everyone was waiting for that moment and nailed it.

He was the guy who murdered Axel Foley's mate. The bad guy.

Ahh shit man thanks. I haven't seen that movie since the early 90s, I seem to remember the fat guy being called Tiger and Axl swinging off the back of a lorry and a blood bath near the end, the rest is a blur! I gotta watch it again really!

I think the story with Jimmy and Kim is brilliant and very clever. I’m also intrigued to see more of the coffee shop (don’t want to give anything away) often featured in the start of the episodes.

If you haven’t already seen it, do yourself a favour. Quality all the way through.

The story isn't just aboit saul though.

It is the story or how Mike goes from a police detectuve to working as the head enforcer for fring

We get the story of Gus fring and the Salamancas their fued and how hector got where he was and how Tucco rose to being the head of the family.

This and BB is old fashoned story telling with his charactors being given life, so many shows now rush through stories and charactors back stories which then become two dimensional.

Agree with all of that. The show is clearly at its best with the cartel, Fring, Mike, Saul and Kim. All the stuff with Chuck, a lot of Jimmy, Mesa Verde etc all went on far too long.

If they’d cut the first 4 seasons into two and left this series as a third series we’d all be saying it’s one of the greatest. Instead it’s not fit to be discussed in the same breath as BB.

I hear you but I kindof disagree. The stuff with Jimmy and Sandpiper Crossing for example is not only amusing (imo), it helps paint the picture of how Jimmy was never going to fit into normal corporate lawyer life. His relationship with his brother is also key to this. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single episode tbh. Although on reflection I still think BB is the best TV drama series I have ever seen.

My memory is atrocious but I think you mean Taggart, the supposed Gerard Ford lookalike.

Sound really that you just want it to be an extension of, or solely about Breaking Bad. It isnt meant to be that. That part of Jimmy McGill's life is just that, a part. I love the fuller picture of how ended up living that part of it.

Your memory does indeed fail you. Taggart was Rosewood's partner, and not the guy we are talking about.

Jonathan Banks (Mike) played "Zack" the baddie who "popped" Foley's loser mate, "Mikey" right in the beginning, the event which brought Foley to Beverley Hills in the first place.
