Big yellow speed cameras

I'll be honest, at the moment I'd be happy if they filled the death trap pot holes in on our b roads, which haven't been addressed for years.
How much does it cost to fill a hole with a bit of tarmac ffs

Thats the problem - thats a sticking plaster fix. I assume our council found some cash this year as after years of slapping a bit of clag in a pot hole there have been a lot of roads here lifted and relaid in its entirety - billiard smooth whereas in previous attempts in the last 10 years involved just filling at the start of winter for the hole to be back and even bigger in spring

When does that happen? And if it does, would cameras stop it? Touch overdramatic there mate.

Just think about what you typed there. Lets say you put a 20mph limit in around schools and a speed camera then add in a big yellow painted speed camera. Do you think it would stop it? And there are reported examples so no I don't think its over dramatic.

Then read the OP. That complaint was about surveillance and civil liberties. Two points I'd make there is that depending where you are approaching a speed camera there are other cameras there is CCTV there are Ring door bells and so on so the idea that a speed camera is spying on a car and driver that are probably filmed tens probably hundreds of times on that journey is somehow THE worst thing. Finally lets alight on civil liberties - one driver having bollocks too big to observe speed limits and potentially getting caught speeding somehow has more civil liberties than other motorists, bus users, cyclists and pedestrians?

Yes, I get that, but my point was that even the plasters weren't even being applied, never mind a clear solution going forward. It appears (to me) that there has been a general decline in road maintenance.
Maybe I see more as I ride a bicycle, a motorbike, and drive a car.
I see money being wasted elsewhere on unnecessary things at a council level, while the essential services are neglected.
Just my take.

Not sure what your point is? One dickhead?
Ok

all I'd say is stop accepting the polyfilla fix and insist via your councillor they resurface - some of the roads around here are like billiard tables now.

Nope - that was one of a number of stories I could have posted. A school friend of my son was killed by a speeding BMW driver overtaking a school bus dropping them off - an overtake thats illegal in many countries and should be adopted here.

A lot of my point is in the 2nd half of my post that seems to have escaped your notice.

No, I read it, but I kind of knew there was a personal agenda attached.
I wholeheartedly agree that speed should be sensibly reduced and enforced where necessary (see my earlier post on the Welsh 20mph limit)
The reason I didn't address the second half of your post was because I never mentioned civil liberties in any of my replies

Where do you live? Any visitor to Manchester from the Airport has to go down Princess Park way. Its a fucking disgrace. Pot holes everywhere. It's a main though fair. Joke.

Redcar and Cleveland mate -probably Simon Clarkes last ditch bid to retain his seat - Ryder cup team come here to practise putting on some roads now

so you didn't notice that I referred to the OP that you were commenting on. If wanting to see the speeding laws upheld and safety on our roads is a "personal agenda" I'll take that

Sometimes cameras are placed where they get the most revenue (not the best safety benefit) and the police are not happy about this.

To make matters worse the money taken from camera speeding fines goes into a Consolidated Fund which the Government uses for general spending and none of this cash is ringfenced for road safety measures. The Government took £391m in camera revenue in the last five years at the same time as it was cutting the numbers of traffic police.
It is basically another form of taxation. I would have no problem with any of this if the money taken was used to boost road safety or even repair our crumbling roads.

Not too sure if I am correct with this but don't the police keep the money from speed awareness courses and is one reason they run them. Well maybe the main reason;-)

I don't understand your first sentence.
And your twisting to arrive at "I'll take that" is quite something, considering we don't actually disagree about anything.

Enjoy York. Hopefully we never have to take 200 thousand away fans again. Nice place.

No Clarke is said to be there I am in his constituency - Blues at Guisborough Town in the FA Cup in the future then tap me up for tickets lol - can'y guarantee there will be 200 available...
