Swap shy for scared. Your hypothetical scenario was fair enough but what about a hypothetical scenario where you see 4 racist knife wielding thugs racially abusing and threatening someone. Being active might get you killed, being inactive probably won’t sit comfortably with you but saves from harm. Don’t want the thread to go in the wrong direction with this but just think things aren’t as binary as you make outAnd here is the point.
In the face of wrong you're either active or inactive, not 'shy'. That factor does not exist.
If I saw Fode getting twatted down the street, I'm active in helping him (or them, I suppose) out or I walk away.
Not shy, either way.
