Blackpool fan dies after trouble at Burnley match

I live in lancs, and whilst not pointing any fingers (maybe I am) Blackpool police have no grip on how to deal with match going supporters in the town, they’re a disgrace. Some might say what can they do when two groups of dick heads want a pop at each other? I’ve witnessed extreme kettling, coppers standing by while a bus load of kids from a junior football team are attacked, funnelling away supporters down an alley into an ambush and lots more. They need to take a leaf out of Preston police, who engage with supporters prior to the match, put transport on from the train station, give clear guidance & escorts to the ground & drinking establishments & very rarely encounter trouble

The people policing Blackpool and Preston home games will be pretty much the exact same people I would have thought. So any difference is probably in the planning rather then the personnel. In fairness I’m sure it is a lot more challenging policing games in busy seaside towns than a regular smallish city with a pretty compact town centre.

It’s a disgrace - go to a football match, have a few pints and lose your life…. It’s prehistoric and utterly unacceptable. Someone or some people have blood on their hands - I hope they have a restless night tonight….

Tbf living as I do now on the edge in Fleetwood the local plod shouldn't in a perfect world nee to be but, should be aware of pricks knocking about.

That being said I keep well away from hotspots in the area, drink in Blackpool midweek etc but they should have some control at flash point games.

I dare say they draft officers from both forces as they are lancs constabulary, but not led by the same people, they are chalk & cheese. Look up PNE Police on Twitter, Pc Paul Elliott, his fan engagement with home and away fans is brilliant. Policing Blackpool games is definitely more difficult, but their answer is to go back to the eighties & treat all fans as criminals, with a distinct lack of organisation & due care, not only that, their mistakes are very repetitive & they just stick with those out of date tactics

They went downhill when Wade Dooley retired.

55 years old why the fuck would you go looking for trouble at that age.
Paulchapo summed it up, and I’m sure we all know of someone who gets mixed up with this. I just don’t get my head around it. The most passionate thing to me is my family to the point I’d get violent. Not football.

This guy leaves people behind who loved him. Kids. His folks. Partner. Siblings??

All because he likes to fight at the football. As selfish as it gets.
