Wish I'd written that, well said. People with agendas remember what they choose, I for one consider Blair the best pm in my lifetime.Massively increased spending on health and education. We'd be spending £30bn a year more on the NHS if Blair's policy was still in place
Reduced waiting lists for operations from 2 years to 18 weeks
Introduced 4 hour wait in A&E. 8-12 hours is the norm in most other countries (if there's a target at all)
Oversaw 8 years of consecutive economic growth and reduction in unemployment
Never voted for New Labour but many of their domestic achievements are hidden in plain sight.
It's also forgotten that over 50% of the public supported the Iraq war and even when it was known that WMD claims were dubious Blair was re-elected in 2005 with a huge majority.
His legacy is tarnished by Iraq but at the time I believe he did what he thought was right and got a huge majority in parliament supporting action. In retrospect it was a huge mistake but who would have have thought that having dictators like Saddam Hussein and Gaddafi in power would be better than what actually happened?Wish I'd written that, well said. Yep I steadfastly stuck to my guns when no wmd were found citing the world was a better place without hitler surely it's a better place without saddam, what's happened since proves me wrong, at least to a degree, but the unprecedented amount of brand new built schools to replace the crumbling ones I attended, the new fit for purpose hospital wings and the transformation of city centres like Manchester and Leeds (where I live now) all happened on Blairs watch but he will forever be tarnished by Iraq and the fact he agreed to hand it all over to the country's biggest cockwomble brown. His legacy is tarnished by Iraq but at the time I believe he did what he thought was right and got a huge majority in parliament supporting action.
