Blue cards to be trialled for sin-bins | IFAB postpones introduction (pg13)

They already have a law that deals with these things. If a player gives dissent to an official, or if a player commits a cynical foul, caution them. If the same player does it again, send them off.

We're in this situation because referees refuse to apply the Laws of the Game. If they applied the Laws strictly, instances of dissent and cynical fouling would start to fall.

They are also considering Purple cards for brilliance, green cards for stupidity and pink cards for florid play.
They just can’t stop meddling.

Blue cards to be introduced..

Footballers could be shown blue cards and sent to a sin-bin for dissent and cynical fouls under plans to be unveiled by the body that decides the laws of the game.

Sitting alongside the current yellow and red cards, a blue card would result in a player being removed from the field of play for 10 minutes. At risk of muddying the palette, there will also be the possibility to mix colours. If a player returns from the sin-bin and receives another blue card, they would also be shown a red card and be permanently dismissed from the game. A combination of one blue and one yellow, meanwhile, would also make a red.

The recommendations are set to be made by the International Football Association Board (Ifab) on Friday ahead of trials across competitions.

The innovation is part of a concerted attempt by powerbrokers across international football to improve “participant behaviour” in the game, after a rise in on-field altercations. There is a commonly held belief that such behaviour trickles down into spectator behaviour and incidents in grassroots sport with real life consequences for players and referees.

I think the over-riding and most pressing problem is getting refs to apply the LotG as they are written. Fuckin' timewasting on an industrial scale, feigned injuries, and would Rodri have had his red card had the ref dealt properly with his assailant?

IFAB have made some impressive changes over the last few seasons - goal kicks, and centre kicks, but when refs don't apply the LotG as the spectators know and understand them that is what will start ructions in the stadium. Personally, I was in two minds whether or not to get the nearest corner flag and perform some gently therapy atop the ref's 'corpus' after his egregious decision to award Wolves a pen. 'Twas only the fact I had a ticket for the FA Youth Cup game on Wednesday on my mobile that stayed my hand.

Another myth debunked. “We’d never have 11 on the pitch”.
What if the entire team began a rousing chorus of 'You fat cheating bastard' after he'd given another penalty of the type that goon did v Wolves in PL2 they'd all get Blue Cards and would the opposition be able to score again 'cos there'd be no one on the pitch. We could have been two up before the soft pen. Would we all come back ten mins later, and would the ten mins be added to Added Time. What if there were only nine mins left? Would we win that game? How long before the game becomes a pantomime? I fancy it's time we rebuilt the Hippodrome on Ardwick Green.

I actually think it’s a decent idea if they use it for diving and actually crack down on it. Players might think twice - at the moment it’s just a yellow card which, for mainly attackers, isn’t much of a deterrent.
