Blue cards to be trialled for sin-bins | IFAB postpones introduction (pg13)

After watching City for over 40 years.

Bent refs,

not being able to celebrate a goal until VAR have checked it.

And now this, I'm seriously thinking of giving up on a sport I once loved :(

In theory I'm all for it based on tactical fouls which have always pissed me off. But others will probably see them as part of the game and not something to necessarily stamp out. Dissent the refs can deal with already. Book them, if they keep going, second yellow and send them off. Dunk at Forest iirc - dealt with.

There's no point introducing something that opens the refs to more scrutiny. What is a tactical foul? Haaland ploughing down TAA before he whips the ball over the top for Salah to chase? Rice tripping up Foden as he's in the final third about to slot Haaland in? Chielini grabbing Saka's shirt as he's gone past him in the Euro's final?

Needless to give the refs more scrutiny at a time when they're already under the microscope. There already is a sin bin system in youth football, but I wouldn't imagine this will be rolled out in the PL anytime soon, not without a lot more clarity on where it applies at least.

We'll see.

Why are they trialling it in the premier league?
If they are going to trial it, use some U21 games
They should be doing this from the kids' game upwards so that by the time they are professional they aren't cynical by nature.

I'm ok with a post game review and consequences but not in game like this.

Nothing but chaos.

We'll have situations where VAR gives the wrong decision, players complain and then get sin-binned because of it. So what would have been one poor potentially result altering decision, will double in size.

Also, there is zero chance referees will be able to be consistent in the application of these.

There will be players having crap breakaway attacks, taking a dive as soon as they're touched in the hope they'll get a ten minute advantage.

It's totally rife for result fixing as well.

Lets have it right, Most referees have an element of incompetence and definitely inconsistency. There is nothing wrong with VAR really, apart from the fact it's the same people operating VAR! It's no surprise we have problems with it.

Now, we want to give the officials another 'get out' of making a decision, like 'I'm not sure so I will let VAR decide'. Now it's, 'I'm not sure if it's a booking, and I don't want to upset the dippers, but city can't say I didn't do something about it, and they should have taken advantage whilst Van Dyke was off the pitch for ten minutes'.

It's another sticking plaster when major surgery is needed.

They’re not.

It’s not even been given the go ahead to be trialled anywhere yet.

But if it is it’ll be in the Norwegian Under 17s women’s league and my guess is, that’ll be the last you hear of it.
