You're right, as consumers we can exercise choice and by doing so we have some power, but from what we can choose matters more, this isn't so much about BMRTV as all the consumer choices we make, particularly in the media.

My view? If all you're ever served is shit, making a decision to consume the least odious chunk of it is no real choice at all.

The media has always been owned by one vested interest or another, we know that and this has always been reflected in their opinion columns and what they choose to cover (or not) and how they cover it, but in the frenetic wall to wall, 24 hour rolling news as it is now, where instant is everything, comment and news just blurs in to one and the world is framed by it.

The internet, with a cacophony of voices not dominated by anyone held out some real choice and it still does, but every day we see attempts for it to be corralled and controlled.

These things matter, and if you doubt it, look how even something so seemingly tiny and insignificant as fan channels and their ownership have got some BlueMooners knickers in a right old twist, "incessant", "obsessive", "who cares", "unhealthy" "axe to grind", "it's not important", "I feel sorry for you".

It's f**kin insane! And they should know better.

Get over it! The sun will still rise tomorrow. If you want to know why I started this thread it's because, for the most part, I like fan channels and because of that in an idle moment I did a bit of digging and found out they weren't, as I suspected, just a group of good lads winging it, but a fair few chunk of them were arms of various media companies.

Fuck me! I thought, even fans for fans channels on the bloody street are owned by the frickin media!

So I post the thread and apart from "who cares" we get various, of what I can only describe as friends of BMRTV, throwing insults in my direction, which if they knew their human nature doesn't make people go way, it just makes them more tenacious.

About the only thing that can be said with any degree of certainty is who owns what, what gets served and why is increasingly a minority interest. It would seem large numbers of folk don't know and don't care, some know but don't care, and there are those that do know but don't care for others to know.
