Blue Moon Top 100 Bands Artists - Full List of Artists (pg 287)

No Smashing Pumpkins :(
1) Aren't Mancunian so they can't get by here on a few paltry tunes or 1-2 records, unlike others.
2) Not enough consistency over what was a pretty short career. And I like them very much. But did they do even one truly great record? Melon Collie is too uneven though it's highs are really good. Siamese Dream maybe?

I forgot to vote for one of my favourite bands, The Pretty Things.

I assume however I'd be the only one.
Honey I need the Pretty Things as I used to say to an old flame.

Fantastic choice Bill just too young in my case to see them when they rocked Oz and Nz IN 1965.

I didn't vote as there are too many and I am too moody to settle on anything that lasts but as I get older I seem to hark to bands like the Pretty Things and my tempered youth period.

Can't believe some more on here would not be into The Pretty Things like us Bill but if not they don't know what they are missing.

And I am in no way seeking to denigrate Steely Dan who are a very good band. But to liken their influence to Mozart or Shakespeare is frankly ridiculous.
its interesting to posture on the lasting influence that bands have over time , what that influence consists of and what will become of music in general as an art form , a creation etc and its appeal.

My younger family members and their friends and work colleagues one who is in a band are not fans of the Beatles at all , they admire their creativity but rarely if ever play or listen to their music and hey won't have any influence on their children etc and Beatlemania for generations to come.

Small sample I know but that is the beauty of music , it brings people together and separates them as well a mirror of life itself.

of course none of us will know and it is appropriate this be the case.

Forgotten who said even Tomorrow Never Knows.

Steely Dan , love them to bits great musicians but other than the streams of you tubes in the future etc you would expect future generations to have less reason as often as I have for example to listen and enjoy the music they have produced but hopefully I am proved wrong.

Of course it is, Steely Dan, despite how popular amongst some posters they are don't have the same cultural effect, appeal or longevity in the memory of people like the classical composers, certain bands and authors/writers that have transcended their own cultures and touched the world

Funny how more partisan people are getting now we are into the top 20.

After all this was a vote on your favourite bands not the best or most popular globally appealing bands(thankfully or we would by seeing garth brooks in here ffs), so that slightly unhinged personal level of fandom/devotion should see the debates hotting up :-)

Great band. Haven’t listened to them in a good while though. Must rectify that.

#20 - Bob Dylan.jpg

This may count as the list’s jawdropper, but poet and musician extraordinaire, Bob Dylan, only just got enough votes to get into the top 20. And a tie for 20th place at that. Before everybody shouts “Judas!”, remember, it was you lot that voted for this list.

Well, if Bob Dylan is only 20th, we must have a good old feast to look forward to, I hear you cry. Let’s wait and see, eh?
