Blue Moon Top 100 Bands Artists - Full List of Artists (pg 287)

Don’t worry. I have had a PM from MES apologising humbly for some moderation issues. Hopefully the thread will be restored at some point, but until then, I’ll put any updates in here.

A band perhaps best known for their big hit “You really Got Me”, some may be surprised by The Kinks being so high. I thought they might do well as I detected a bit of support in some of the comments on this thread during the voting. If you’re a Kinks fan, your loyalty has been rewarded.

Probably best known for you really got me? Haha you had a mare there mate. Anyhow the Kinks are just brilliant and it was hard to Decide where to place them on my list. I had a top 8/9 that I found really hard to separate. Their best stuff and there is a lot,is as good as anything ever done imho.

Wasn't MES modding last night??

Suspicion grows
I was indeed...
And i was merging 2 threads in the main forum and I have no idea how but the music poll thread went with it.
I moved it into the mod forum.and requested it be unmerged - this may not be possible so now inam going to take the other two threads out of it and put it back in here.....
Please bare with me as these things take time.....

I've not got much of the early Kinks stuff but have several of their later albums. Never got to see them live. Obviously they are best known for writing Van Halen's first hit single.

As is my usual way I popped the Kinks top tracks on Spotify this morning but the selection was too obvious, some great songs but nothing I hadn’t heard before. Is there an album anyone can recommend that would represent the best of them?

Fantastic band, thought (or hoped) they might be higher, their song repertoir is brilliant and Davies is a lyrically gifted writer, they have undoubtedly inspired a lot of other bands and their echo reverberates through to this day.

Ok, they havnt got the hard rock edge of the Who or the Stones, but their pop music is extremely likeable and you sort of know the lyrics to their songs without any research, the sign of a great writer.

Songs like Waterloo Sunset and Lola are standards in any top 50 list, but my favourite songs of theirs are the more low key ones like Victoria and Days and Shangri-laa, even talking about them makes me want to go play them, and you cant get a better reaction than that.

Village green preservation scociety is their best, though quintisentially British, as is the excelllent Arthur and the decline and fall of the british empire.

If you want more heavier sound with still their quirkyness then go for face to face

Their transitional LP from early years then Listen to something else.

After those 4 listen to muswell hillbillies and Kontroversy,

Always remember this on the doc of their careers firstly because Dave Davies had just rexovered from a stroke before beong interviewed, and secondly the description of brotherly love with friction and annoyance at each other I could relate to when I shared a house with mine for a while in our 30s

The Kinks, and Ray’s superb songwriting, we’re greatly undervalued at the time. As time has gone on their cultural significance has grown. A superb catalogue of material for me.
