Another trip to my favourite loch today. It was a little trickier than the last time as there had been the first Caenis hatch of the season (caenis is a very small white fly that is difficult to replicate. It’s referred to as the anglers curse). As a result the fish had been gorging on them like little porkers and they weren’t much interested in anything else. I managed to winkle out 9 on my favourite black hopper that is suggestive of a hawthorn fly. One of them was pushing 5lb And a lovely fish. Highlight for me was seeing a weasel on the Bank with one of its cubs in its mouth, obviously moving dens.
Lake of Menteith on Saturday as a club outing. They have a resident white tail sea eagle this year which is seemingly stealing trout from the Ospreys. It was featured on Springwatch last week. Some remarkable film of It having a good look at a deer that was swimming across the lake. Hope to hell I get to see it. They are remarkable birds.
