Bluemoon Angling Thread

Afternoon ladies and gents and a very happy New year.
I have booked a week away at Docklow pools, anyone been?
I’ve been 4 times, Kev. It’s a lovely place. Loads of fish to catch in a beautiful environment with a cracking pub. You will love it mate.

I think i remember Terry Thomas fishing there in the late 70s on angling today. It was just the one lake then with dead trees in the middle iirc.
I haven't fished it for donkeys years.
I fish for the non existent salmon on the nearby Wye nowadays, but I hear its a well run complex.
What time of year are you going mate?

End of June mate.

My mate is fishing for bonefish on St Alphonse Island in the Seychelles andwas due to fly off the island today. Unfortunately, the plane that was due to fly them out has undercarriage "issues".

Fortunately, the next flight out is this time next week !!

My annual fly tying starts today which gives me around 2 months before the start of the season. The target will be;

30 FABS
30 Blobs
30 Boobies
30 Buzzers
30 assorted Nymphs
30 lures
30 Dry's
30 Emergers

that will require about 4 per day on average which is easy enough if you keep on top of it.
Despite having 1000's of flies there is always a need to refresh, try out new materials and tie new patterns.

Today i mostly be tying Grunters.

I rolled up at the river on Friday only to find out it was in flood and unfishable. Odd as we'd only had one night of rain that I was aware of. Fortunately, Leamington Anglers has a small,1 acre, rectangular pool very close to the river so I went there only to find 4 cars in the car park which is unusually busy. Turned out every one of them had done the same as me, not checked the river level and been caught out.

Anyway, it was 11 degrees so set up on a feeder with my back to the wind and had a fantastic day with roach, skimmers and a bream of sround 4.5lbs. A chap on the other side had 3 carp on pole and shouted across to me to ask whether I was aware that there was a deer in the trees behind me. Turned out it was trapped by the fence so he and I rounded it up and pushed it towards the gate where it duly ran off. Tried to get some close up video but forgot to press the play button. Bollocks.

Anyway, another fishing day added to my life.

I just got the salmon fly tying kit out of the cupboard. A Willie Gunn tying session is coming!

Any recomendations?
