What’s’pole’ fishing ?

Put simply, fishing without a reel. At its most basic, a pole is (usually) a long rod with no rings but an elastic mechanism inside the top section, like an internal shock leader, to provide stretch when a big fish is hooked. It enables the angler to fish fine, if required, at, say, 10m in a very tight area and control the presentation.

Not for The Snake mate. Have you been out much?
Haven’t fished locally this year at all, rivers are pretty blown out still. Mainly though, my right thumb is in a cast at the moment, seeing a specialist on Monday morning, might need a small operation on it to relieve the tendon

I do like the waggler, it's probably how most of us started. I even play around with a light feeder rod once in a while. But I always revert to pole. I catch so much more.
I'm not greatly experienced but consider myself an average average. But I still can't work this out. I was on Blundells last week and decided to fish corn on the Waggler. Feeding neat corn only , no groundbait. I had Bream and Ide to one and half pounds regularly. But not a sign of a Carp. In the afternoon I set my pole up fishing 10 metres just a midgies short of where I was Waggler fishing. Feeding neat corn from a pot. Well you've guessed about 3rd bite I hit a carp. 6lb ish. Managed on white hydro. But then in 1 hour I had 5 more carp on, that absolutely battered me. Putting my pole away as a bad job I went back on waggler and didn't have any more carp. As Greavisy used to say "It's a funny old game".

It is indeed and I have found the same. I fished on Saturday on the next peg to my brother. He fished wagler all day (Granted he is comically useless ) I bagged up including a 10lb 5oz Common and he blanked, which was fun even on Green Slik elastic, thought it was going to reach the far bank at one stage!!. I think it's just presentation, but as you know there are so many factors. Corn is always my go to bait at this time of year on our waters, it rarely fails.
