Bluemoon's Official Top 100 Favourite Manchester City Players

Unfortunately Colin Bell and his team-mates now are increasingly distant in memory for more recent generations of City fans. Their names are still revered but we now have more recent heroes who have also achieved greatness - just the way of the world unfortunately.

Sam Cowan - one of City's great captains who played in three FA cups for the club - has not been mentioned in this poll. My parents moved back to Doncaster in the 1980's and got to know his sister who, when she found out I was a City fan, showed me some great memorabilia about his time at the club.

I would not imagine any living City fans can remember watching Sam play - in thirty years time there will not be many that will have watched Colin but plenty with fond memories of Dave, Kun etc. - time marches on.

I think the passion some posters have about the older players is great though.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Gnégnéri Yaya Touré (born 13 May 1983) is an Ivorian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder and last played for Chinese Super League club Qingdao Huanghai.

Touré aspired to be a striker during his youth and has played centre-back, including for Barcelona in the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final. However, he has spent the majority of his career as a box-to-box midfielder for club and country, where he has been regarded as one of the world's best players in his position. One of the greatest African players of all time, Touré was voted African Footballer of the Year for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Touré began his playing career at Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas, where he made his debut at age 18. His performances attracted attention from Europe. He had stints with Beveren, Metalurh Donetsk, Olympiacos and Monaco before moving to Barcelona in 2007. He played over 100 matches for the club and was part of the historic 2009 Barcelona side that won six trophies in a calendar year. In 2010, Touré moved to Premier League club Manchester City, where he scored a number of key goals, most notably the only goals in the 2011 FA Cup semi-final and final. He also helped City earn their first league title in 44 years.

On 2 July 2010, Touré signed a five-year deal with Premier League club Manchester City for a fee of around £24 million. He was issued squad number 42, the reverse of the number 24 shirt he wore at Barcelona, since Patrick Vieira had already been allocated number 24. The move teamed Touré up with his elder brother Kolo, who signed for City in July 2009 from Arsenal.

On 16 April 2011, Touré scored the only goal of the game in a Man of the Match performance against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final. Touré continued his Wembley success by scoring the only goal in his side's 1–0 win over Stoke City in the 2011 FA Cup Final, ending Manchester City's 35-year wait for a major trophy, and writing himself into Manchester City folklore in the process

It was announced on 4 May 2018 that Touré would leave Manchester City at the end of the 2017–18 season.

I gave Yaya a lot of thought about him being a favourite player based on his ability on the field and his despicable agent's claptrap and Yaya's cakegate and racist Pep rant etc.

But based on what he did on the field for this club I placed him a commendable 6th. Great player in some huge games before his decline for 18 months or so.

This will be controversial, but I personally wouldn't pick Yaya as a favourite player. A very great player, certainly. One of our greatest. I certainly wouldn't pick him above someone like Mike Summerbee, who was and still is playing an ambassadorial role in the club (he was pretty exciting to watch too, but given that he was pre-satellite tv and blanket coverage, I understand that many won't be that familiar with him).

110 out of 120 voting for Yaya shows that most of those voting are from the post Maine Road era. That is fair enough as they and their offspring are the future of our fan base unlike old farts like me. I had Yaya in my 20 because in 2013/14 he was simply magnificent, but above “The King” no chance.

Who were the 10 that omitted him that is the question?

I can’t believe how some 50 year-old men and above are moaning about a poll on blue moon and basically slagging off anyone under 40 who never saw Bell play but they still think should have voted for him as there favourite player without seeing him play ? saying that if sidewards , backwards wins this I will be gutted ha ha

Enjoy your weekend , up the blues
