Editorial comment -- as with those who voted for Stepbrothers, I feel a slight pull of my leg and suspect a WUM or ballot-stuffing getting the fucking Thing on this list, especially so high up. I would not at all be surprised if the jokers who somehow forced inclusion of these two movies were one and the same.

In fact I didn't know if those voting for it intended to select the terrible original The Thing or the even more terrible remake of The Thing to be the one included.

Anyhow, it's in here, and my God have mercy on your souls, and may you not be turned away by St. Peter for your putrid taste in films.

The pinnacle of practical horror SFX.

The thing (capenters original not prequel later on) is considered in the top 5 and many times the best horror movie of it's or all time

Gets on lists all the time and I voted it my number one, not for a laugh but because if I fancy something to watch it is one of the first things I go to to enjoy, it never dates even the FX though dated still are passable.

Carpenter has got 3 films on this list and rightfully so, during the period from mid 70s to late 80s no film he made was bad bar maybe fletch and fletch lives

Unlike the matrix if rewatched is dull second time around.

Step brothers I agree wank

I find horror generally dull (The Shining, if that counts, is the one I’d say I like best), cannot understand why characters wander off alone when it’s clear that they shouldn’t wander off alone, and I can’t think of a Carpenter movie that find better than passable — maybe Escape from New York, though I haven’t seen The Fog! However, I get the SFX argument, and he did marry Adrienne Barbeau, so he’s one-upped me by a large margin.

I'm not sure that Mrs FogBlue would necessarily endorse or otherwise agree with that statement mate ;-)

PS Try the scandinavian original 'Let the right one in' for superior horror.

That's the biggest surprise of all so far, Star Wars being so low. A genuine game-changer of a film if ever there was one - maybe I was the right age at the time, but seeing that for the first time in the cinema blew away everything else that had come before.

As for "The Thing", I'm not surprised it's here - thought it might be higher. I didn't vote for it, but I ran a similar poll on another forum in 2013, and out of 37 respondents, 13 people voted it into 4th place.

Hi, you are doing a splendid job as stand-in. Do you know by any chance how many films did not make the top 100?

On a similar theme, how about a list of films that received the maximum 20pts but only had one vote.
