I was in there when City were only given a couple of hundred tickets. I tried to remain anonymous, nah it didn't work.
Well said.I was one of those in the seats at the top of the Stretford End that day, C stand if I remember correctly.
There was about 20 of us from Heywood and when we were Chanting "City City" the Stretford end starting singing " C stand sort em out, C stand, C stand sort em out".
We knew the risks and were prepared for battle but can honestly say not 1 rag had a physical go at us.
Ps Hendrie scored their goal, not Giggs.
Hated the way he got the glory for it
Brilliant. This ridiculously crap screen shot off youtube is a 16 year old me in the main stand paddock after Brightwell ‘just wellied it’.
Instinct made me shoot my arms in the air.
Fear made me put them right down.
Bravery made me shoot them back up when i realised there was quite a fee blues around me.
In the 70s and 80s it was usually safer to watch matches at United and Liverpool from the home end as long as you kept your head down and it was much easier to get tickets. I have watched dozens of City games from the Kop and the Stretford Paddock. The away section at LFC, the Anfield Road End, was a very dangerous place in those days.Loads of us in there that day, the Curle penalty game etc, piece of piss getting tickets there
Remember one game when the Guvnors all filed out of the United Rd paddock on the halfway line walked along the side of the pitch and into our end in to rapturous applause like greeting hero’s back from battle. They did the same at Villa away one year.Brother and several mates in the United Rd paddock, all game lads chanted and celebrated goal. None of United's finest went near them.
I was in the City end seats and was amazed at the amount of City fans in their end. One thing I remember back at our place was United getting the small seating section where the North stand and the Main stand met. Under the police control box. Don’t know if it was official or touts.Loads of us in there that day, the Curle penalty game etc, piece of piss getting tickets there
1973 - not the best 0-0 I've ever seen - "tiny" is a bit OTT though, not our usual numbers for a swamp derby but Allison had buggered off to Palace 2 or 3 weeks before and there didn't seem to be that much enthusiasm among the fans. Was at the about 74 or 75 a goaless draw and a tiny City contingent half the scoreboard end. Rags all dressed in tartan as Docherty had signed half the Scotland team. Chanted England 5 United 0 as England had battered the jocks the week before. Menaced all the game from scoreboard paddock but amazingly no mither outside. Think it may have been Easter Saturday. Only 50 years ago seems like yesterday.
