Blues in the Stretford End ‘92

Became Mersey Lights then didn't it.

Yes it did. Funny story but when it finally closed a few regulars broke in one night, took beers and a ghetto blaster and lit a fire in the fireplace, had a party lol.

I watched the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford towards the end of the 91 - 92, keeping very quiet throughout. Nothing unusual there, I reckon there were a good few Blues doing the same thing.

What was unusual was there we’re about fifty to a hundred Blues stood in the corner of the terrace to the right. I thought they’d get kicked out, but stewards stood round them instead and they let sky blue balloons off just before kick off.

It was all a bit surreal, not least when Keith Curle equalised from the penalty spot and they were jumping about celebrating.

Was anyone on here there or know the story behind it? Never seen owt like it before or since, but praise be to those Blues that made that corner of the Stretford End ours!

I was in there. Mikey Williams sorted us all out with tickets. I'd say there were easily 500 hundred in there at kick-off, once we all established where each other were.

Best feeling I've ever had at an away game, the look on the faces of the scumbags jumping into the Stretford Paddock from the Stretford End.

We all stuck very close together and looked out for each other on the way out. Coton ran out at half-time and came running over to us at half-time giving us the c'mon and fist-pumping.

Neil Poynton got sent off and it started to kick-off above us as the United fans tried to push us down the terrace.

When Curley scored it was fucking manic. An idea of how many we had in there and some of the handy lads in our company, nutter Paul Nolan took his coat off and had a Leeds United shirt under it (Leeds going for title).

United fans trying to get to him and he's laughing his bollocks off surrounded by a City cordon.

I was at that one. We got 850 tickets when the Stretford End was being rebuilt. I was in the United Road Paddock.
Is that the game the toe sucker scored after a few minutes. In their seats just below where the seats they give us now in their old main stand. Toe sucker scored and not many near me jumped up. Lots of nods and winks even though we were one down

Yes John his name is ex seaman and a big Blue I knew him years ago, we used to drink in the Snooty Fox on Princess Parkway. We were having a drink in there before the Charlton 5-1 promotion game and Alan the manager at the time gave us free hospitality tickets in the Maine Stand as the brewery were sponsoring it. He was also in Porto for the champions League final.

I actually can't remember the result but I remember they always used to give us a little strip of seats to the side of where the away end is now, pretty much that small part of the main stand which is still given to away fans. I can remember seeing them standing up and chanting but can't remember much else and the figure of 850 has always stuck with me.

As an aside, I went to Anfield where they only gave us a couple of hundred seats. They'd done it because they were redeveloping the Kop but they ended up actually opening it that night. I sat in their Main STand and I think we lost about 2-0. Mid 90s this was.

One of the old school. We were both at sea at the same time and his missus, then girlfriend Annette, worked at customs. I haven't seen him them in years but recently reconnected online. I'll have to pop down to that pub of his for a beer

I remember it very well I got two tickets from a rag in work and just went not knowing they’d be around 400- 500 of us in there … the team came over and applauded us at full time . Rags didn’t have a clue what was going on , the old bill tried to cordon us off at one point.
