Re: Bluemoon Golf Competition 2013
The Masters certainly served up talking points and it was a dramatic 4 days that saw Adam Scott overcome Angel Cabrera in a superb playoff to win his first major championship and banish the demons that caused his collapse at The Open last year. Have to think with his talent that he'll bag a few more before his putter may(or may not) end up being banned so it'll be an interesting few years, he has the talent to be a serious challenger to the likes of Rory and Tiger.
Speaking of Tiger his 2 shot penalty and not being disqualified meant he brought home a bagful of points instead of losing 80. With the fact that everyone's such a good judge of a Masters contender that only leighton had anybody in the top 3(well done for picking Jason Day), and thus the combination of Woods & Kuchar have enabled the status quo to dominate both the league and cup for another week, here's the table:

newenglandblue and Brisblu will playoff between now and the Players Championship. You two need to agree on a week in which you want to playoff. The options are:
Week 1-This week-Open de Espana(Casey for NEB, Lowry for BB) and RBC Heritage(Donald for BB).
Week 2-Zurich Classic(Keegan Bradley plays for NEB, Fowler for BB) & Ballantine's Championship(Bjorn & Casey for NEB, Kjeldsen for BB).
Week 3-Wells Fargo Championship(Quail Hollow, McIlroy plays for NEB) & Volvo China Open(Bjorn plays for NEB, Kjeldsen for BB).
The alternative is that I take the cumulative score for those 3 weeks for both of you and declare the winner after that.
Let me know your preference.
This means the seeds for Round 2 are:
1) Carstairs
2) MC
3) Balti
4) mindmyp's_n_q's
5) jerseyblue
6) TaxiforCreaney
7) Tenerife Blue

The domination of a certain section of teams, those with Woods and Kuchar to be specific, has lead to some pondering from myself. Last year we had Playoffs that ran alongside the FedEx Cup playoffs, and I think they went well. However with the European Tour introducing the Final Series, we now have both tours doing the same sort of thing. As a result we're going to have an additional tournament this year.
Basically the Top 16 in the league table after the Wyndham Championship in August will qualify for the Playoffs and they will run as normal. They will also qualify automatically for the 2nd event, which will be called the Final Series. However the remaining teams outside the Top 16 will have a qualification tournament during the Playoffs for the Final Series. As there are 39 teams, there will be 23 teams left over who won't make it to the Playoffs. They will enter what I call an Elimination League. They will all enter this seperate league and start on 0 and earn points as usual during the Playoffs. However each week the bottom so many teams will be culled, leaving us with 4 teams after the Tour Championship that will join the 16 from the Playoffs to make a 20 team event for the Final Series.
At the Final Series these 20 teams will be in their own Elimination League, and the process will be repeated from the qualification league ie. everyone starts on 0 and each week the bottom so many teams will be culled. This will leave us with a small group of teams entering the Dubai World Championship and the person who finishes the top of that table will be crowned the Final Series champion.
I'm doing this basically to utilise the Final Series to create another tournament to play for to keep the interest up and also to allow the teams at the bottom a chance to have a really good run and win a tournament. I think it's an interesting format to try out.
Please note the league will run alongside both these events as normal and won't be affected, that is still the premier trophy in this competition and the Golf Cup is 2nd, followed by the Playoffs and then this new Final Series trophy. As it's such a long season in golf it's important to keep people interested throughout.
The second point is I've had a couple of private requests for some form of trade window. There is an fundamental problem with this competition in that a number of top quality players don't get picked, and as we saw at The Masters guys like Scott and Snedeker are good enough to gain you good points. To ensure that as many different top golfers as possible are in the competition I'm going to have to work on a new entry system for next season as neither the current one or last year's worked. What I propose is a Bundles system. What this means is that players will be put into random bundles and these bundles will be kept private until you randomly pick one, you then pick let's say 5 golfers out of the bundle you've chosen. That way the same golfers can't be recycled constantly. The downside is it takes away your complete choice and you may not get to pick who you ideally want to but I'm struggling to find a way to get all the top golfers into this tournament without people naturally defaulting to Woods or Rory.
So we could give this system a trial if we have a trade window. I will make it clear that no golfer that has already been picked will be available for the trade. I would bundle them up using the categories I used for the entry system, and you would be allowed to trade 1 player. So if you want to trade your wildcard, you would select a wildcard bundle and there would be a selection of players in there from outside the top 100 that have not been picked and you would pick one. This would obviously need the approval of a majority so your thoughts would be welcome. The trade would probably take place between the Players and the US Open if it were to happen.
We move onto this week and we have a good event from both tours for once. The PGA Tour heads from Augusta to the famous and iconic Harbour Town for the RBC Heritage and Sergio Garcia and the returning Miguel Angel Jimenez head to Spain for the Open de Espana for the first European Tour event in Europe, 4 and a half months into the season.
The categories are:
PGA Tour-RBC Heritage-Category D.
European Tour-Open de Espana-Category D.
Enjoy!
