BMG v City post match thread

No movement. No pace. Baffling team set-up. TBH I was glad the missus changed channels to BBC1 during the 2nd half. Tedious. Dull.

You may have been glad this time, but you surely cannot be encouraging that sort of outrageous behaviour?

You sense from Pep's comments after the game that he couldn't wait to reach this part of the season relatively unscathed. No more CL worries, internationals over, he can now focus solely on the prem, working every day with the players.

Yes we have things to work on but who doesn't? Only 3 defeats (Barca, Scum, Spurs) and a manageable injury situation is a great return. It's just the start ballooned all our expectations.

We'll be a totally different side coming out of Christmas.

Nothing wrong with the players - almost any club in the world would die for our squad.
I'm generalising of course - we clearly need to strengthen in certain positions and ongoing improvement is always necessary.
But this is a team that could and should win the Premier league - if we don't we've underachieved again.

Down to the manager to get a tune out of them - and I think he will, eventually.

The Liverpool team that Klopp inherited was generally not considered to be good enough.
There was a feeling that they'd wasted their money on people like Llana.
Now look at them. They have a good manager and they look amazing.

Guardiola is about 9 months behind Klopp.
Last year Liverpool made a great start under Klopp, then were very inconsistent but occasionally brilliant and this year they've improved and added consistency.
I think we are following a similar pattern.

We have a great manager - let's hope he gets it right.
If he doesn't it won't be because he doesn't have the players it will be because he wasn't as good as Klopp / Conte / whoever.

Congrats on an excellent post.

Job done. Still think the team is in the early stages of developing into what Pep wants from them. We will continue to improve throughout his tenure. It was interesting last night. For 10 minutes before half time we seemed to have cracked the code and had runners making late runs behind their back 4. We did it 2 or 3 times and resulted in Dave's goal. We didn't replicate that movement in the second half although we totally bossed it and closed the game immediately Fern was sent off. Just reading the new Pep book and one of the things that's claimed he didn't manage to do at Bayern was teach them Game management. Well we certainly demonstrated it pretty well for the last period last night.

Agree with all that. It is also worthwhile remembering that Klopp and Conte are not playing international games this season. That is a considerable advantage, and certainly part of the explanation about why their teams are doing well at the moment.

The defence is definitely a major major concern, regardless of the quality of the opposition we look like conceding goals every single game, our inability to tackle is also a major concern, we look lightweight when trying to win the ball back, still a hell of a lot of work to do.

Pep decided to play Navas and Sterling as wing backs.........so we cannot complain when our defence looked suspect. Navas played in 4 different positions last night and Sterling was expected to cover Stones(who was very weak against their attacker) ----by this time Sterling had been switched to the right....
Navas worked hard but he was mostly defensive. Sterling just looked confused, but our goal did come when he attacked down the right.
We must play a back 4 against Burnley - they will give 110%.

We started the season looking like things might be different, but recently we have looked just as disorganised as last season.

And all this "We did a job" does not wash with me, I thought we were supposed to be in the entertainment business?

I have spent the last 3 yrs annoyed at how mp never demonstrated any game management, after dinho went off pep did just that knowing the barca score, boring yes but what was needed
I do blame pep for how we started the game but he did change it quickly enough, somethig mp never did,we are a work in progress, pep seems to be testing the team to see who can do what,we now have the time to focus on the league
