Bobby

Les McDowell was manager when I first went to Maine Road. I've seen a few, then, although that doesn't make me an expert. Its actually hard to compare managers who have had varying circumstances but Joe and Bobby stand out for me. I'm going on a combination of tangible success with perceived ability. Both also have/had engaging personalities in their different ways.

Even with massive resources the X factor has to be applied. Winning the title last year would have been beyond many in our illustrious past. We shouldn't under-estimate the achievement of knocking Baconface off his perch either.

It's a results based business.

Champions 68
Cup Winners 69
League Cup Winners 70
European Cup Winners Cup 70

That tells me Joe is in front for now, but Roberto is still going.

I just saw Joe's team and also the team that Tony Book built in the mid 70's. Until our recent upswing they were by far the best teams quality wise in my 40 odd years odd years of watching. But before you accuse me of being a codger living in the past, I can honestly say the current team is the best of all. Last year in particular it was fantastic. Keep going Roberto, you have what it takes.

Best manager in your life time? I'm younger than some

Best City manager in my lifetime, but then again, since he's the only one appointed since ADUG took over, it's a bit of a dead duck of a competition as we were perennial also rans prior to that takeover.

I suspect in 10 years time when we're looking back Bobby won't be the best of yours, mine, or anyone's life time.

Still, at least Andy it gave you the chance to start this thread and remind us all of how interesting you are after 10 pm ... ;)

BTW ... to whichever moderator banned me, thank you. I'll take one for the Blue team this time.

Not old enough for Mercer so yes. As above, I suspect he wont be the best in my lifetime, though I do think despite all the 'anyone could have done it with the amount of money spent' (which is complete and utter bollocks), we'll look back on Mancini very favourably. As the man who despite immense pressure, walked into a club learning to run before it could walk, made tough descicions to get rid of fan favourites and expensive signings because he knew they had no place where we were going, instilled a winning mentality, made Bacon chops look like a twat and steered the club to it's first trophy in eons and it's first title in even longer.

Agree with nearly all of that. Not sure hell be the greatest ever, but he'll certainly be up there because all he's helped us achieve.

joe.

end of thread.
Same for me mate. Started watching City in 1956 and the position Joe hauled us back from made his achievements all the more impressive.Add to that the fact that he was respected throughout the game, never heard anyone say a bad word about him,and he was also a very good player in his day.Met him a couple of times when I was a snot-nosed schoolboy and he was a total gent, going out of his way to pass the the time of day.
De Niro, you on about Royle or Mercer? Please say Mercer and save me from looking a pillock.
