Bodo/Glimt (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

I said the same thing after the United game. He dominated Shaw when he was at Bournemouth yet when Shaw was booked after 20mins in the Derby Semenyo didn’t go near him after that - all very odd
Doku the same with Dalot. He was either scared of him (which is possible) or he’s playing to the same orders as Grealish was!

I wish they would forget tactics. Take a shot, cross the ball, pass forward instead of sideways. Anything to score a goal or two.
The problem with this when it comes to crossing is playing left footers on the right and vice versa.

We seemed to have reverted to last seasons tactics.

I know injuries haven’t helped but why change the way we were playing up until Christmas.

We are horrible to watch at the moment !

Worryingly, Semenyo looks like he’s already caught the ‘don’t attack your full back, keep playing it backwards’ bug.
Given that 4 weeks ago he ran the rags defence ragged, if he’s being told to do that against an already booked Fatty Shaw, he’ll become another disappointment, which will be criminal.
Let’s see after another month or so of playing him, then we really will know.

Horrible feeling but the last two results feel like the end of an era and huge changes are inevitable and imminent

Is that three at the back or five at the back? We’ve had holes as big as the Grand Canyon most of the season, three at the back with only two midfielders and we’ll keep conceding.

Having 5 players defending and 5 attacking.

There was a limited time where overloading and having 6 attacking worked, but it doesn’t now and that’s largely why we look all over the place in transition.

We also need the press to work better to stop the opposition having time t9 pick the pass for the counter attack.

Or, if we’re really worried about exposing the back line, play 6 defensive minded and 4 attackers.

Cancelo was never particularly good at defending but he was excellent going forward and was able to do the defensive basics most of the time. Ait Nouri can't defend at all and is nowhere near the same level of threat going forward.

Again, the drop in quality in this position is stark. Seems like a familiar theme throughout various positions from where we once were, not sure why.
There must be some academy lads who actually play fullback, although Pep seems to have an aversion to actually playing fullbacks at, erm, fullback!

Pep thinks in four dimensions and as such he tries to articulate things in English but it comes across as jibberish, a bit like he only wants four dimensional football but with Dog and Duck players.
Pep's ability to think in 'four dimensions' reminds me a lot of Donald Trump's renowned ability to excel at 3D chess and astrophysical enquiry.

His passing and crossing is generally poor, his defensive awareness isn't all it should be .... he tries to get forward, but once he does he HAS to find a better final ball, or it's just all in vain.
Look at the cross in the first half. A perfect opportunity to put in a decent cross, not under a great deal of pressure, we had two players in to their three. It went straight to their keeper, no direction on it at all. Terrible attempt for a professional footballer.
