Bookies are wankers i was out on saturday no reception so walked into a ladbrokes wrote out a £10 double on the 2 De broomhead winners went to the counter and was told the max i could have was a £2 double fuck me they were 12s and and 15/2 at the time.Walked out went in a pub and did them on skybet.I go to the jumps at Sandown every meeting never had a rails bookie refuse me never asked for a bank statement one particular Tingle creek day 3 or 4 yrs ago we backed all 7 winners in the last went to the same bookie and had 500 on a 9/1 shot Samrive
Bookie had it ready after the race said well done and see you in January never see them turn anything down and there are some big hitters at Sandown they always get on Gary Moores boys proper cleaned them out last year.So whats the differance between on course and off course.Im a 20 quud punter till i start winning when its there money is when you lump on.Just another blight on our civil liberties.

Spanish law is massively in favour of the punter.
As it should be. It’s outrageous that they can ban someone from betting just because they’re too good at it, but are happy to take everything that someone has from someone who is clearly addicted.

This is obviously the wrong way to go about it, but let’s not pretend than problem gambling hasn’t massively increased in the past 20 years as they’ve relaxed regulation. Particularly amongst young people. Something needs to be done to regulate it properly. I’d ban advertising it for a start.

I'm with you on the advertising ban.
The bookies have managed to fool a lot of people into thinking that you can't enjoy a game of football if you have not had a bet on it.

But surely the Tax Treaty between Spain and UK makes world wide earnings taxed in just one of those countries depending on residency?

The point isn't to tax dodge, just to get a bet on and get paid if it comes in!

I haven't had the affordability checks yet but I'll be damned if I hand over sensitive (and valuable!) financial information to a bookmaker. They use these as a way of not paying winning bets, countless examples of people depositing for months breaking even or losses with no issues yet the day the acca lands and they go to withdraw a substantial amount they suddenly want your wage slips and bank statements for the past 6 months! I kid you not, I have seen requests for people to take photographs outside their front door holding a passport or drivers licence to be paid for a bet they gladly laid.

They can't get away with doing that in Spain because of the gambling laws in the country. Its gaming the system basically siphoning all your online betting activity through Spain but that is what people who gamble for a living are forced to do in this climate. The alternatives are pay the premium to use the exchanges (still subject to affordability) or travel the country betting on course.

I'd probably pack it in if I was asked for one of these checks, its just a hobby and not worth the hassle.

Not saying it's a tax dodge just that if you live 6 months or more in UK in the UK tax year you pay all your tax in UK including those in the Spanish Bank so they may very well insist on the same info..

I know that as a Spanish taxpayer all my UK earnings (pensions) need all the documentation in Spain as it did when I lived in UK.
