Bookies affordability checks - Big Brother wants to see your bank statements !

Good luck to you all but there’s a few people in here throwing up red flags for gambling addiction.

On a football forum that’s probably not unusual I guess.

You know it’s really not normal to be spending thousands of pounds gambling…

For a lot of people it is not failing an affordability check that they’re worried about.

It’s objecting to the intrusiveness of the checks, which can go way beyond anything they can reasonably need to know to identify somebody who might have a gambling problem.

The accusation is that they are using that info and the results they come up with from it, to effectively ban punters from using their services because they’re not the sort of customers they are after. IE, one’s who know what they’re doing.

I don’t disagree with that and in practical terms you might be right.

I just think the way gambling advertising is so rampant in this country is scandalous and the industry needs regulating in the same way smoking and alcohol is for example.

It’s massively dangerous for a lot of people’s financial and mental health.

For anyone struggling with Gambling I'm more than happy to talk on PM.

I go to meetings and have been battling gambling addiction for many years.

Good man, it's an absolute fucker of an addiction and no less worse than alcoholism and drugs. More needs to be done regarding it.

Why are they a fool? It’s a service? If you buy a pint for £4 are you a fool? No, it’s something to enjoy.
£4 on an acca would last longer than it would to drink a pint and at the end of the enjoyment you might get some cash.

When it comes to betting people only focus on the addicts. What about the hundreds of thousands who just enjoy a few quid on the footy each week?
I get what you're saying, but I promise you that my £4 acca is normally dead and buried way before I could finish a pint.
