Boro Post Match thread

Yet another disappointing game. i remember some seasons ago playing WBA, Blackburn and Norwich in successive home matches (might not have been in that order!) and on the day we played them each team was bottom of the PL. After the conclusion of the three games we had amassed two points, two fuckin' points against the bottom of the league, relegation fodder. I don't know if all three went down but at the time they were bottom. We didn't have the squad then that we have now but we still can't see off teams that are likely to be relegated. The reason? Well, if I had a handle on it I'd be knocking at every PL club telling them I have the elixir of title and trophy wins.

My ERO tells me that Boro have a good defensive record. Didn't the mighty Tigers batter 'em at The Riverside the other week, and how has Conte, and PInnockytino fared playing The Smoggies?

All we get is the answer when the game is over. How about providing something of an answer during the week preceding the game. Very disappointing.

Our home record isn't great. We might be better off if we had three away matches tbh. I think Pep has been right for months when he has said that this is going to go down to the wire.
Fair comment, but sooner have home games than away, more potential to lose away than home :-)

Only scored two goals twice since 17/12 in prem and today was one of them! The other they lost 4-2. Says it all.

Very disappointing indeed.

Because our fullbacks are wank. Any top team relies on their fullbacks to offer something to the attack, especially against teams sitting deep and crowding the middle. No manager can get the best out of a team without any fullbacks

I agree. But is Pep's way to use overlapping FBs for width and options? And if so, can whomever is on the end of the cutback pass from the byline find the net or do we have to rely on Kun or GJ to get in front of a defender? Frankly, we just look easy to defend unless we are rushing with numbers, and even when we did that today we had little.

It's obvious the original selection formation was wrong, but consider the following:

- He wanted Aguero and Gabriel in the same team
- Sane and Sterling have been experiencing performance/fatigue issues
- He now has an in-form Kompany available to him, something he didn't have when previously playing with a back three

He tried to find a way to achieve what he wanted to achieve (Aguero and Jesus together) with the obstacles he was facing (Sane and Sterling issues). Yes it didn't work, but he changed it and from then on we showed the dominance many had expected from the start. You can't lambast a manager for trying formations that don't work as long as he's prepared to change when it's evident it doesn't work. In fact you need things like to this to help get to a working solution.

Also very happy Garcia played - wonder if we'll see him again before the season's over.

We draw both of our games against Boro this season, and I don't think its because of our fullbacks.
