Boro Post Match thread

I am so sick and tired of people saying:
a) he hasn't got his own players
b) the players he has are too old
c)) this is the way Soriano et al want them to play
d) we need to give him time

a) he has players that can play in the PL and a good manager should be able to play them in their own position and not tip tapping back and forth across the width of the pitch and then........... oh we forgot to send it back to the goalkeeper, even though we are actually (at last) going forwards
b) the players are NOT too old, they are not being given the encouragement they need
c) Soriano et al surely want a team that can play in the PL?? Plus when did Soriano et al ever manage a football team?
d) Would you want to be giving him time if he were any other manager? No, just because he is Guardiola somehow he is given every excuse under the sun!!

I was at the game today and for the first time in a very, very, very, long time I actually thought why have I wasted a day and the money going to this game. Even under the Pearce era I can't remember thinking that. I am proud of the players who turned out today, I am not proud of the way they are being managed!!

What really annoys me as well is that Guardiola keeps, apparently, going on about the fans getting behind the players, well today for the umpteenth time I noticed that after the match every single player, even those who had been substituted, came over to applaud our fans, the manager walked across to talk to the players but didn't even acknowledge us. It works both ways Guardiola.

Did he really build teams at Barca/Bayern though? Pretty sure it was all set up for him. I've seen nothing this season to suggest he was worth the wait .

Totally underwhelmed.

He changed things around at Barca from what I remember and got rid of some of the old guard. Don't really watch enough German football to know how he changed things there.

I can't think of any manager who would have much success with the current squad to be honest. Guardiola fits in with the direction the management wants to take but it's going to take a while. Let's hope we get there.

The trouble is we don't have enough real goalscorers in the side , if you play one striker then you are relying on Kev, Raheem, Sterling, Sane, Silva , Gundogan , Fernandinho to pick up the slack- even with a striker banging them in like Sergio each season it's nowhere near enough goals to win the big gongs .

We have a chronic lack of goals in the team and it's a big big worry , you simply can't rely on Sterling, Sane and Kev to do the business so it's a big big problem for Pep next season.

So for many the answer on here is to buy Mbappe and Sanchez ? Who drops out then? Or who drops out on a regular basis ? The way I see it is what we have isn't good enough in front of goal, we won't win the big gongs relying on Sterling and Kev or even Sane for that matter.
Just thinking that myself, when you see Chelsea results, Pedro, Hazard, Costa, Willian and Cahill always seem to be on scoresheet we need improvement here!

Maybe because too many of the players are just not good enough. Cliche, Kolorov Otamendi, Navas all surplus to requirements. Otamendi's lack of pace is an accident waiting to happen every week with teams parking the bus and trying to hit us on the break. We need to invest heavily in a quick strong dominant Centre back, a keeper and 2 full backs and that is just for starters. All successful teams build from a solid base but we are an absolute shambles at the back
. Once the defence is sorted properly we might just start to see trophies again. Two goals at Middlesboro should be enough for 3 points imo

Didnt we invest in a keeper and a £50m centre back last season? Or don't they count?

I'd like to think so. The over confidence of him nailing the window is quite a surprise considering the Bravo and Nolito deals.

Isn't it just.
There's a huge amount of wishful thinking going on, aggressively backed up in the guise of superior knowledge.
I think they're just young.

The club clearly want us to play in a certain way (as Soriano himself has said) but at the current time we have players not really fit for that job, that's why we struggled last season and aren't really ripping up trees this season. This window is critical as we have a lot of players out of contract and we really need to bring in players that are capable of playing the way Guardiola/the club want. Hopefully by the start of the season we will have a much stronger and younger squad that have been bought for the way we intend to play.

So will Soriano and co be ok with us finishing outside the top 4 as long as we've tried to play football the right way? Sometimes we just need to win ugly ....and that's what pisses me off, the fact that we fail to change our style sometimes in order to get a result.

One is young and still developing as a player but hasn't been very consistent yet but I believe will turn into an excellent CB in time. The other is a very good keeper that it just hasn't worked out for here so far for some reason. Unfortunately that sometimes happens.

You'd have to ask Soriano that. I suspect that he might have hoped for better but I doubt he's planning on making any managerial changes.
