If the ball hits a part of the body (knee or head, whatever) and it clearly wasn't going to hit the arm/hand from the original shot or cross but then does because of the ricochet, that to my mind is accidental and no pen.

With the incident on Weds night, yes it did slightly touch Can's head before hitting his arm. However the original cross would still have hit the arm if it hadn't touched his head. The arm was in an unnatural position. That is not accidental and is a penalty.

Yes. Can was struggling to say the least to get a head on the ball - at least a head that would make decisive contact, and so he did what players do now; he made sure his arm was there as a back up and guarantee that the ball would go no further. In other words his intent was to commit an offence if necessary and that's a penalty.

The guy who blocked the first attempt (Dahoud) had just been substituted when we won the corner. Wasn't there to disrupt Phil on the next go.

IMO we were the better side over the two-game competition and deserved to go through.

But refereeing in both games was fucking awful. But for once, referring errors mostly went our way.
