It's a good deal for us in and of itself, based on his current level and contract length, but I can't help but wonder how this and the Sancho deal reflects on our ability to offer opportunities to young players, and whether that will affect our recruitment of the best young players in the future. We've had some pretty good coups in the past, with players leaving the likes of Barcelona to come here. But will that continue to happen if all of our best young players end up leaving due to lack of first team chances?

Even more ridiculous wage to be paying someone who has barely played any football yet.

Good luck to the lad, but he might find himself on a different bench, but in sunnier climes.

If he was at say Southampton, Leicester or Everton he would be playing most weeks. He’s a Spanish u21 player at age 19. The fee, with inflation is, probably in the Patrick Roberts ball park. Not suggesting we were paying Roberts anywhere near that wage but by the same token we don’t know what we were offering Díaz. I wonder what Foden is on now given his 6 year deal. It won’t be peanuts and he hasn’t played much football either.

Even if he is average Madrid will be able to recoup their money and some in a couple of years.

Exactly. Personally not seeing a top top player in him. See him as a Lucas Vazquez type ceiling. On loan for a few years than back to Real as a squad player which is not bad at all. Good luck to him.

Sunny climate is infinitely better when you’re on 65k per week!!

Originally thought he was better than Foden but from what I've seen this year I realize I was wrong. He'll end up at Osasuna or Espanyol.
I would add though that 19 year olds have to be phenomenal to get a game at Barca, Madrid or City. Messi, Ronaldo territory..

Or you could say, go through the academy you might end up playing in the first team or sign for Real Madrid

tbf real madrid do play quite a few youngsters dont they ?

Good luck to him. He will be a stick to beat us with should he do well, but he has talent.

I would have liked him to come through for us but the prospect of Foden and Doyle, Mancunian City fans, making it is more exciting IMO.

Correct.

There is a world of difference between young players like Foden & Doyle and others such as Sancho & Diaz. Whilst the former have a natural affinity with the club as they have progressed through the academy from a very early age the latter have been signed from other clubs (Watford & Malaga respectively). We have to accept that young players who left their original clubs in order to further their careers will have a tendency to move again if they think it is their interests to do so. Foden & Doyle and hopefully others will have a default position of wanting to make it with us. It doesn't mean that they will stay under any circumstances but that they will give it longer to see how things pan out.

Something dodgy about this transfer
Why are Madrid paying so much for him when he is free in 5 months time
Why are they so keen to do deal now
He isn’t going to play that much
Unless something else is going on (maybe Isco deal in pipeline)
Or have we paid them £10m to pay back.
