It's much, much better than The Wire

The Wire and Breaking Bad are the two best things, I've ever watched, but The Wire still edges it for me
A few on here recommended The Wire so thought what the hell i'll give it a whirl as it was on the box series on sky....Six episodes in and thats enough, not for me
Breaking bad is quality though.....

Lots of people say that, and I was the same. I nearly jacked The Wire in after 3 or 4 episodes (couldn't work out what the fuck was going on, nor understand what anyone was saying etc), but if you stick with it sooner or later the lightbulb will go on. Once it did for me, the whole thing blew me away. Incredible television

I am sure I will be repeating myself here but, for some reason, I stayed away from The Wire when it originally aired, which was crazy because it is just my kind of TV. Anyhow, your recommendation and others coincided nicely with it being aired again from the start on Sky so I am now close to the end of the fourth season (got to play a bit of catch up due to the World Cup).

I still fail to understand every word as it is spoken on The Wire but it is truly brilliant TV. I love that it does not simply repeat itself each season but retains and develops many key characters.

On Breaking Bad, I suddenly discovered it last year, in no small part thanks to BM, and bought first four seasons. I watched a whole lot of episodes in a short space of time and then stopped during season 4; not because I went off it but I started stacking up lots of viewing on Sky boxes from new seasons of shows I watch that were airing. I will go back to Breaking Bad in next week or so and must say that, so far, I have it edging the Wire. In fact, I may still prefer The Sopranos to The Wire; all very close though so I look forward very much to finishing both The Wire and Breaking Bad.

The Sopranos is simply TV of the highest quality. The show won't be everyone's cup of tea but anyone would be hard pressed not to recognise how well made it is. For me, what you have to remember is that it is a family drama that just happens to have a Mafia back drop; rather than a programme about the Mafia. Guess that's why they called The Sopranos rather than The Jersey Mob.

Hope you enjoy it.

Only started watching this today. On episode 7 now but I was hooked just after episode 2!

I've got bad words to say about it!!!!

I just found it boring and a bit dull. Breaking bad is bar far the best thing to hqve been on TV. Just finished Fargo, that was brilliant story telling, and almost finished banshee season 2, now that's a show!!!!

It annoys me whenever I see someone raving about The Sopranos. Everything points to it being exactly my sort of television, and yet I can't get into it for love nor money. I feel like locking myself in a room with the box set and not leaving until I'm a convert.

The greatest two minutes of television I've ever, ever seen. Don't watch if you've not seen up to Season 5 Episode 15.

When the music turns at 1:25, and the very distant bells start, as Gretchen begins to run Walt's name through the mud... I've watched it nearly 100 times and I still feel the hairs on my neck stand up.

The ultimate in script writing and tension building.

I love Breaking Bad as much as the next person, although personally I rank it ever so slightly below The Sopranos.

Yet, as comical as it would have been admittedly, I would have loved it to have ended
with Walt getting a clean bill of health and getting put in the witness protection programme, starting his new life as Hal Wilkerson..

If you like the Wire, the Sopranos and Breaking Bad then try The Shield. Series 1-7 have all recently been made available on Netflix ....the story revolves around a bent drugs squad in LA. I think it edges the other 3 for me.
