Breaking fast during football

Has it always been announced on a big screen, and then subsequently shown as a highlight on Motd?

That's not loaded in any way just fyi, nor am I making any point with it. I genuinely never noticed it before and didn't know.
Haven’t a clue. It’s definitely not been booed like that before. It’s crazy to me that people get worked up over tiny things like this.

It's not bigotry to talk and have a discussion about things that are happening in the country.

That's the problem in society now. Way too partisan and not enough discussion.

Depends entirely on if that view or what is being said is racist or bigoted.

I think the problem is the opposite. There is too much discussion, and the 'it's not racist to... ' propagated upon us has become the go to, when most often it is exactly what it is. And why we are in the mess we are in as a society.

Speaking generally that is, rather than relative to the posts you are referring to, which I haven't seen as they have been removed.

Would Leeds fans have booo’d had three of their players been in need of the break?
Thick as pig shit Yorkshire twats

Leeds fans and their bigoted booing....well I never...

Is it too much to ask for a bit of respect and humanity. In Leeds it clearly is.
I was in the City support and live in Leeds. Just been reading the moronic posts by Leeds “Fans” on various Yorkshire Evening Post groups. Apparently it was pre arranged by Pep with the PL to pick Muslim players to enable the stoppage because we knew we would be under early pressure, Lol. It appears totally lost on them that Leeds as well as City had the team huddled around the coaches while it was going on. There wasn’t even a Muslin player in the Leeds team in need of breaking fast.

They used to be one of the most racist supports back in the day. They could have black players in their team, but that wouldn't stop them doing monkey chants, or the zigger zagger song at opposing players. Leopards never change their spots, they are still the inbred, living in the past, bigoted Yorkshire cunts they always were.

Most Yorkshire support isn't like them at all in fact they are loathed particularly by both Sheffield clubs' fans.
There is an account of when Sheffield United went there back in the late 80s/early 90s and one their well known black fans was targeted for racial abuse by Leeds scum. The Blades support proudly hoisted him up on their shoulders and championed him, chanting "Ohhh Black Billy, Wham'a-lam, woah black Billy...". He loved it. They didnt quite know what to do.

I’d rather religion and politics was let out of football tbh. And that’s been the position for a while, until it doesn’t suit (FIFA peace prize, etc)

But this is an obvious welfare issue. Same as water breaks in very hot games, etc.

Announcing it on the big screen don’t really help but I understand why it was in a way (avoid accusations of tactical timeout).

Someone did post something interesting the other day - waiting until half time to break fast? Is it a requirement of the religion to break fast at the exact time of sundown or is waiting a bit permissible.
Muslims observing Ramadan don’t have anything to eat or drink from sunrise to sunset, so the sooner they can take liquids on board, the better for them, especially if they’re running around, playing high intensity sports.

This has been a thing for years but of course as this country spirals deeper and deeper into racist hysteria the usual types suddenly decide it’s ok to hurl abuse.

Fucking disgusting and what’s even more disgusting is Leeds haven’t even apologised and the media have barely mentioned it - like it’s totally fine for tens of thousands of people to hurl racist abuse at a handful of players.

It’s not like it even benefited anyone. Both teams had the opportunity for a little team talk and a drink so why does it matter?!

If I were one of the Muslim players I’d have told everyone to shove it up their arse and fucked off down the tunnel.

I agree with everything you say, but the last sentence.

It’s far better for the Muslim players to rise above the booing and hatred from a few Neanderthals and ignore it, because if they do react, the racists and bigots have won.

At a risk of being piled on here, I do think that there's a strong element of virtue signalling here. I personally have no religious faith and made the decision early in life that it wasn't for me, but don't mind anyone else practicing whatever religion they choose. Somebody mentioned the example of Michael Jones the All Blacks rugby player refusing to play on a Sunday, but they didn't re-arrange the fixtures to suit him did they ? He didn't play. I also disagree with the point that they couldn't wait an extra 30 minutes as nightfall would have occurred by then. Some religious practices of Christian, Judaism, Islam etc almost venture into Monty Python territory, but as I say - each to their own. All religions should be open to criticism and scrutiny. I live by one principle - treat others as you'd like to be treated yourself. If you don't want to be robbed, don't rob other people. If you don't want someone to sleep with your wife, don't sleep with other people's wives. As people have mentioned, it didn't make a massive difference given all the stoppages in the modern game, I'd just much prefer it if religion was kept out of football. Best wishes to all

Fair points, except Sty chooses the kick-off times, so if those who disagree with players breaking fast during games want to direct their ire in any direction it should be to the main broadcaster of the game in this country.

This isn’t a dig at you, @donkinho.

For me the whole thing just shows the rise and rise of intolerance in this country. It's never been a problem till this year. This year in which Reform, Restore, and Advance are debating 'remigration', specifically who gets remigrated. They don't have the balls or the honesty to say anyone with brown skin, but that's where it's heading. And don't think football is immune. Rupert Lowe (now Restore formerly of Reform), believes that the reason England hasn't won a trophy since 1966 is because the team does not have enough pure English bloodlines. I wonder what he means.

No offence taken. This is, after all a forum where civilised debate can take place.
I just think that we’re on a slippery slope with the religious stuff. It’s only last year when City’s own Marc Guehi was given an official reprimand from the FA/PL for writing a Christian sentiment on his captains armband when at Palace and this didn’t impact on the game at all - nobody bar himself would have known. So do we respect one person’s religion and not another ??
And where do we stop ?? No games on a Sunday so Christian players can observe the sabbath ? No games after darkness on a Friday so that Jewish players can observe their sabbath ? No games at Easter, Yom Kippur, Eid etc ?
Or do we have an adult conversation with all players and say “look lads - you’re paid huge amounts of money to play football and one of the reasons is that TV companies pay massive money to screen the games which pay your wages so either A) you can play games whenever you want and take a huge pay cut or B) Play when the schedule says so and just accept that now and again you might have to compromise a little to justify the largesse you receive - your choice ? Then you can go home and worship whichever god/deity you choose ” I don’t think that this is in any way controversial. As said previously, I am removed from religious faith and would much prefer it if football was the same. Again Best Regards to all
