Brendan Rodgers - How good is he?

Before Pep signed his extension, my two favourites for the job were Pochettino and Rodgers, with the latter being my first pick.
Arrogance grounded in self belief, paired with humility, is imo a necessity in order to become top of the top, in virtually any field, so I don't see that trait of character as a negative thing.

The Raheem situation might be tricky, but a lot of time has passed since that incidence, both men have matured and grown up, and I feel with him speaking Spanish, it would make it easier for him to get his messages across in our team.

So, unless some other exciting and proven manager turns up at the end of Pep's reign, Brenda will still remain my top pick. Good age, good style of football, improves players, already settled in the northwest, bilingual... etc.

Yes...but is he as good or better than Pep and if the answer's no then there isn't much chance of him coming here. Therein lies the problem when Pep calls it a day.

He isn't arrogant, honest. I met him 3 times. Hes not a cock. He can be a bit cliched with his great city, great club, great supporters line but he is alright. I rate him as a manager too, his record is good
Well you obviously know him better than I do. One of my failings is to jump to conclusions about people based on pretty superficial stuff like the documentary, the teeth, fucking off his wife for a newer model, as you say, the cliches that seem to pour out of him.

So, I’m discounting his time at Celtic. He did ok at Liverpool but ultimately failed in the heat of battle, something that was repeated last season at Leicester. Maybe I just find it difficult to see beyond Pep. Anyway back to BR, how did you meet him mate?

Far and away the best British coach around, a really decent manager who hasn’t failed anywhere.

I’d have no problem with him at City after Pep.

Let’s not forget Pellegrini wasn’t a spring chicken, had been around for yonks and hadn’t won anything by the time he came to City... oh how people scoffed at this, 12 months later he was a double winner, including the league.
Depends on how you class failure. He certainly has managed two PL teams that have been competitive. Both of those clubs have track records of winning trophies, so are capable of doing it. His track record with the dippers was 7th, 2nd, 6th. He seems to be repeating that level at Leicester, falling just short in the League and the cup competitions.

I see nothing in the way his Teams play football that excites or interests me other than them working hard and being well set up and disciplined. Does he have a track record of improving players? If I was kind, I would say he could have done more to protect Raheem from the dipper wolves.

In terms of best available British coach, I’m not sure. there are not many options tbf. Potter would also be a candidate, he arguably is achieving almost as much at a club with a far lower base.
So, it’s a no from me.

Indeed! You don't purchase players who are worse than what you had. Same with a manager. But who is better than Pep? I think when the time comes it will be a case of getting someone who is just 'different'!

When he was Swansea boss. Chatted to him once in a gym. Few months later again in a suite at the Liberty Stadium when I was on a hospitality jolly at an Ospreys rugby match and once through work. Speak as you find he was sound.

He's done a brilliant job at Leicester, and seems like quite a likeable bloke. Not sure he'd be suitable for City but he's obviously a very competent manager.

Liverpool hadn’t won the league in 2 decades+ and he came the closest out of anyone, completely overachieving vs expectation. At Leicester, again, he’s doing better than expected and his team is above several teams with better personnel.

He has improved a fair few there, Maddison, Ndidi, Fofana and Barnes he’s improved, just to name some.

His football is very good, it’s not as majestic nor detailed as Pep’s but it’s attacking and exciting and he prefers the free flowing approach.

I would say that he brought Sterling through and whilst he might not have protected him like he should have, when he left for City, that’s a different point than improving him as a player.

He’d do well at City and would win stuff with us.

I think thats a very generous assessment but hey, its all about opinions :-)
