Brentford (A) - Post-Match Thread

Real scrappy game due to how Brentford were set up. They actually defended well and didn’t get cut open many times so in that sense it worked for them I suppose.
The sort of game that you realize with about 30 mins to go that there’s gonna be no more goals in and it’s just about seeing the game out Wouldn’t even bother watching the highlights of it again!
We can’t expect the players to be on top of their game every match especially in this busy period.
Just hope we don’t have to go into a big CL game later in the season without Rodri having watched Fernandinho recently

Don't understand what Brentford wanted from that game, strange team, I know they were understrength, but I waited (and waited) for them to have a go, and only the manager did at the referee (which was laughable).

They wanted a defeat that didn't fuck their goal difference. And that's exactly what they got.

They created pretty much same number of decent chances that we did. With a team that cost less than pretty much every individual player we fielded tonight. What did you expect them to do? Go toe to toe and get picked apart? They played exactly to their minuscule budget strengths; fair play to them.

I expected them to hang on for 80 minutes, which they did - and fair play there, but they fouled and dived all night, aided and abetted by the referee first half, but even he seemed to tire of it, then have a go at us to try and force something late on, that was my point, the last 10 minutes they did nothing new.

Ake was a really good pick by Pep today. Ake is amazing in set pieces and it helped a lot against a team who relies on set pieces a lot.

Very underrated and an easy target for some who ought to know better.
He's a grafter and never shirks a tackle or moans when things are not going for him.
Always gives his best and you can't ask for more than that.

Well Grealish was non existent. Even Barnardo was quiet although thats understandable on the occassion hes entitled. Ferna for me is showing his age at times. GJ contributed nothing. Some very sloppy hospital passes generally. Obv delighted with the 3 pts but we were fortunate they never nicked one cos I couldnt see a second from us.

Ferna was superb tonight no? They had no shots in the second half. We cruised to and away win with very little effort and a clean sheet. Hardly shambolic. I think expectations on here are off the scale. What we are witnessing here is very very special. To call that shambolic is mind boggling to me. But hey it's all about opinions so fair do's
