Brentford (H) | Post-Match Thread

Not rocket science, get the ball in early he will do the business, we never got the ball into the area quickly enough, they defended us very comfortably.
Can only play the ball quickly if theres space behind. A deep laying defence makes that an impossible tactic

Not good enough yesterday, infact I'd say the last 4-6 games have been hit or miss, with mnds elsewhere!

There's to many pre Madonna's worrying about the world cup, let's face it, most of them haven't a fookin cat in hells chance of picking up that throphy, most have more chance of picking up a STD. They'd be much better calling in sick and concentrating on the Prem and CL instead.

I do hate WC, infact all internationals, when certain players put more effort in to what gucci bag/colour of headphones they'll travel with, more than football pre and during the competition....its the "just get me on that plane syndrome"....!!

Yesterday was highly frustrating and their effort was no where near the money they get payed.

TBH one or two I'd wish them well, then change the locks on their lockers, leave their stuff at reception for when they get back!..."Here's your hair gel and sliders ya ****, now fuck off!!"....hahaha.

Fuckin World Cup my arse!!

Grrrrr!!
That might just be the best spelling of prima donna I have ever read.

To answer your first question, control and domination - that word was used to describe our play by Brentford - of the ball and territory, the fact that they defended very deeply and packed their defensive third. We tried the final ball, but it didn’t work. Won’t work all the time. To answer your second question, no. And we don’t do that & haven’t won a shit load by simply doing ‘pretty little passes’.

Possession is interesting. You can win a game with low possession stats, but you can’t win a title playing that way. The teams with the highest possession levels for the season so far are us, Arsenal, Liverpool, United, Brighton. Will be interesting to see if Spurs and Newcastle can stay up there playing the way they do. But, I agree you can have more possession than the opponent but do fuck all with it - Wolves, Leeds the case in point so far this season.
Leicester city...just saying

There’s always one;) Yep - an unbelievable season from them, 40% possession or whatever it was, the tinker man didn’t tinker and the way they pounced on mistakes was incredible. I’ll adjust my comment - it is incredibly rare to win a title with possession less than 50…

Lol..i get your point. But if a twam sits deep inviting you on then you will naturally have the ball a lot... really doesnt help us playing with a traditional CF ..no space..all try going forward desperately trying to find sonething.. leaves so much space behind us. I think loads of games will be won this way now.. sadly...we will get done by Spurs i think for one as we are made for them.. fight for top four i really believe this year

But they haven't won many games have they'? So what was your point?
They’ve won 6, drawn 4 & in sixth after 14 games, not amazing for them, but not a shit position. And with respect I have no idea what you’re out to prove with this line - am guessing you think possession football isn’t the way forward and we should get Dave Bassett in a consultancy role - so I’m gonna crawl back out of the rabbit hole.

City will be a different animal after the break. The 5pts will keep us focused and on the hunt. These types of title fights brings out the best in us. Unless we get a ton of injuries, expect a winning run when we return to action. Break has come at the wrong time for some teams but the right time for us.

Team not working hard enough.
They certainly didn’t yesterday. One extreme to another. Worked their arses off against Fulham. Think there was an element of just turn up and we win about them yesterday. The first 10 minutes should have woken them up from that slumber but it didn’t. Pep should have hooked some of them at half time. He may have done had we not scored.

Can I just say I’m so looking forward to the World Cup 2022. Where I will be transfixed by England and it’s array of superstars. Only problem I’ve got if Rashford gets injured early on after being our biggest threat would Toney be able to take the helm. Or am I being obtuse?
Just international football's a bit ermm shit really. Happy if we scrapped it myself.......lots love it though...

fair play to them

Possibly, and agree that spurs and conte will be tricky, but we coped when he played the same system at Chelsea so we’ll see. And the low block, hit on the break has caused us problems in some matches for years. A lot of things have to fall in line for a weaker team to get the points - as happened yesterday. And perhaps yesterday will be a longer term benefit - a learning opportunity for the newer members of the squad. It also shows how important Walker is.

While I liked your last post, I’m not sure why you say there was a lack of desire. That’s one thing you can’t say about this team, they fight to the end every game. They’re serial winners. We just couldn’t find a way through that defence and some of our players were off their game, we didn’t make enough changes and they were clinical when it mattered.
City were a bit lacklustre, however we had played with 10 men for an hour against Fulham and in an entertaining end to end game against Chelsea over the previous week, which must have had a tiring effect on some of the players selected to play.

Statistics and football should never be mentioned in the same breath, let the stats stay with cricket and the sh1t Yank sports.
Agreed..No decent manager changes their mind through stats they just use them to re affirm what they know through watching. Football never made for stats...

I think he is an absolutely outstanding 4th or 5th CB for us..... not in the same class as Dias which make todays decision staggering.
Rodri slowed everything down today as well. It's tough to blame one player but we'd have played so much better with someone else (Phillips - too early probably today, Bernie, Gunda in that position) Rodri is a great player but slows us down big time in games like this today. They bypassed the midfield so a CDM wasn't needed at all really
Well played Eddie. Might have shut some idiots up for a while - maybe not though
Erling terrible! I recon he can be excused a game or two though. Nice break for him coming at the right time
And for the Grealish haters - we wouldn't have got countered half as much today if he'd have played so would have probably not lost. That's why he plays. He keeps possession. There's no point arguing with people who don't really understand the tactics of football on that though. All they're interested is Goals, assists. now, now, NOW
Anyway, we'll be fine. Can anyone really think Arsenal will be strong enough mentally when it gets serious. They'll defo bottle it. We could do with a full back mind you. Gomez and Rico not ready yet. Hopefully Walker comes back from the WC fit
Walker is a big miss as he tries 100% always..makes a big difference when you have a character that makes others understand what's important ...

We got warned first 10 mins, correct. No reaction and got turned over. Really poor result, and after a bit of reflection it was warranted. Hopefully a kick up the arse mate.
