Brian Marwood {merged}

Re: Brian Marwood

Because if you give the manager full control over the transfer kitty, they end up spunking £18m on a forward who can't tie his shoe laces without getting injured.

I'm so glad Marwood prevented that, we'd look right idiots if it wasn't for him.

Re: Brian Marwood

It baffles me- Our club is on the charge and people on here have a go at a key cog in the wheel- despite not even knowing what job he does ffs.

Thanks for clearing this up Pearce_out. I think this is a good idea as mancini does not know the prem that well and marwood basically does and will understand the type of player that would suit the league on the discription that mancini gives him.
As has been in the past with previous managers who went and bought all sorts of players wgo just did not cut it in the premiership.
I honestly believe that this will help us bring in players that will fit in and not become a waste of money. Just think of the money saved if this was in place under keegan.

We would have saved a lot of money but Keegan would not of stayed - he is old school. Another thing that the structure does is put tranparency into every transfer dealing - Bobby could never be accused of taking a bung. This is unlike other managers we could name.

Technical Director - Mike’s impressive CV includes roles as the Academy manager of Sheffield Wednesday, Technical Director for the Wales FA and Chief Scout at Blackburn Rovers. Mike joined City in the summer of 2008 along with Mark, the two of them having worked well together at Blackburn and enjoyed a high success rate in the transfer market.

Mike’s main responsibilities include the management and organisation of scouting and player recruitment. His aim to build and co-ordinate a network of staff to best identify and monitor the finest football talent throughout the world.

Re: Brian Marwood

We should get that other bloke in to do all the transfer business - just like in the good old days. oh - what was his name?? That's it - Peter Swales.

That Marwood's clueless. I mean, Adam Johnson ffs - who's he?
And we've only finished 5th!

(Yawns)

I know mate, was just having a chuckle.

I've said before the board were a bit naive in giving the unproven Hughes the amount of power they did from the get go. I hope it isn't a case of once bittne twice shy and they don't overcompensate and go too far the other way with Mancini, I'm happy for the club to veto deals which look ridiculus (Santa Cruz) but I'd hate them to start forcing players onto the manager, that's asking for trouble.

Pearce_out has put the Marwood thing perfectly clearly and hopefully the OP in his place. A football manager these days has neither the time nor inclination to get involved with players contracts. They are far too complicated with things such as image rights etc for him to contemplate. Makes so much sense to have this burden taken off him so he can concentrate on what he is there for - putting a winning team out on the pitch.

And this was the sort of thing that "soft get" from Everton couldn`t get his around,Moyes, ref the Lescott saga.
He slagged Hughes off for NOT contacting him directly.
19th Century Club who need to move forward !!!
This has been happeneing all over Europe for years now.Managers have enough to worry about and don`t have a clear understanding of Contracts any more because of the complexity of them and all the legal shit thats also attached.
At the end of the day as long as Bobby Manc gets who he asks for with no interference from Marwood and Cook, then hopefully it should work well.
