Brighton (A) | Post-Match Thread

Horrible bunch. From booing the guard of honor to booting us up in the air until the 95th minute. See you next season - hopefully @ the Etihad around May time to send the fuckers down.
I said it yesterday and I will say it again having lived near Brighton most my life I can confirm most their ‘fans‘ are actually Liverpool or United fans and have Brighton as their local side. Small time wankers can’t stand them they acted like wankers at wembley as well

The sending off changed the game and Brighton are a passing team very well equipped to take advantage of their numerical superiority. And there, in the 9th minute, the game ceased serving any useful purpose for City. The officiating was beyond a disgrace and Moss took VAR to a whole new level of shame. VAR now exists for no other purpose than to tell us that we cannot and must not believe what our eyes have seen perfectly clearly. No fans at football matches then this bunch of cheats to welcome them back.

What was suprising was that the commentary team kept referring to decisions by Jon Moss. It was clear that he was in charge and not the referee Atwell. Why didn't Atwell check the Jesus "penalty" himself? The whole process is bent. It also seems clear that the VAR team are being influenced by the broadcasters who seem to be leading them to review certain incidents and not others.
Who provides the images which he VAR team use? Are the VAR officials also watching the TV coverage simultanously? The system is corrupt. They are treating supporters with contempt.

It's a meaningless statistic. We have probably conceded 95% with Ederson on the pitch, or 75% with Dias on the pitch.

I'm not excusing Garcia, because I don't think he is very good. But the statistic in itself is irrelevant. It wasn't Garcia's fault Cancelo got sent off.

Remember Kante's non-penalty decision against Sterling? Yeah that was Stuart Atwell on VAR. Guy's an utter clown.

Forget the Cancelo red card
Forget the fouls on Gundy
Forget the pen on Jesus
We should be all in on the wrap around out of control tackle on Jesus, the ball was long gone, and the Brighton player had left the ground to commit a foul, that was played as an advantage to Brighton!! One of the worst decisions I have ever witnessed, yellow card & a City free kick. I’m sure Despot Dermot will explain away all 3 of the above decisions with “he got it right, but it’s wrong, var had no choice, so the correct decision was made because the law states clear & obvious blah blah blah” this decision exposes every other in the game, but because of the timing, where it was on the pitch and it’s City, it will be considered insignificant & get no coverage, when in reality it exposes a shocking truth of incompetency & possibly corruption
Now City have got good at putting things like that out of their minds the last couple of seasons, but last nights 'performance' by the referee was hard to ignore; he was relentless. From the moment Gundo put us 1-0 up he started, and he never let off. We were cheated last night. Absolutely no doubt in my mind. That was corruption.

The early doors non-foul foul on their keeper when his own player caused him to drop the ball was also glossed over by the BT pundits, yet it had a noticeable effect on our players. That's the thing that people often don't realise about corrupt/incompetent referring is how it alters the mindset of the players and ultimately their performance.

Match thread was full of people slagging of various players last night. Garcia bore the brunt of most of it, but take into account the Cancelo sending off for literally f*ck all, and you can bet that was in his mind every time he challenged for the ball. Same with Rodders and Dias. Gundo went off early in the second half because he knew that if he stayed on he was just going to get kicked again knowing the ref would do f*ck all. It was reminiscent of the Arsenal v Rag's game in 2004 where the Rag's took it in turns to kick f*ck out of Reyes.

Something truly stinks about last night.

Don't normally comment on refs as they have a difficult job but f*ck me that was a abortion of a job. Apart from the non red card for joa, non penalty on Jesus, non red card on Mr whippy, there were countless mistakes. The one that so obvious that he is bent was when Jesus was felled by a Brighton player and he put his whistle to his mouth and blow for a foul and realised it was would have been a city free kick and decided to play on but blew as soon a fern committed a foul a few seconds later. Bent as fu*k.

I honestly though Fern was going to nut him.

Shatwell has been demoted previously for being inept, he's completely out of his depth but he seemed to go out of his way to give the Brighton fans a nice day out last night. The Brighton players rose to the occasion, it was a big thing for them having their fans back, but this game would have been dead and buried if that **** could just play the game rather than the occasion. As it is, the game started bordering on dangerous for our guys as fuck all was being given our way, hopefully Gundo is ok but a couple of the other guys could have been injured as well.

Onto the game itself, i still think we should have managed it better especially when we got to 2-0 up. I know Pep is trying to save from injuries, but Garcia hasn't played a game in months and even when he was playing early on in the season he was useless. In fairness he was out of position, but one of the lads from our blind football team could have done a better job there. Fuck, they could have put Carson at RB and he'd have put a better shift in.

Fingers crossed that Gundo is back for Everton and we can go full team and get some rhythm into the legs for the guys that will start.

Side note, i thought Rodri was doing ok till he made that huge fuck up. The worse thing about it was he took so much time bemoaning his fuck up rather than just getting on his toes to get back in position. Think that signals Fern's starting position in the final, but you really never know with Pep.

We all can accept losing games, we can all offer praise to a team that outplays us but last night confirmed in my mind that there is a jealous, corrupt streak running through the game from officials to media. Watching it again I don't accuse them of this lightly but it's plain to see something stinks.

The game last night had not one but four major errors from the officials and not one was overturned. What makes me suspicious is as others have pointed out - they make the calls instantly and cite the clear & obvious error argument so allow them to compound the error by not changing it. Many other matches are handled completely differently. We as City fans are not being bitter about losing it's just facts. I would say to some of these fucking clowns that it is not only the SL fiasco that could have ruined our sport it is the deep rooted "jobs for the boys" and plain as day corruption that is a bigger threat. Pep and the team cannot say anything as they will be fined and/or banned like naughty school kids - we can and despite it being a meaningless game some of the actions last night could have damaged a professionals career - the Gundo tackle being case in point. Only thing for it is to win the lot, stick together and f*** em all.

I also believe that many who now earn a crust through the media cannot accept that our owners and our manager have changed football so much that as a nation we have a chance of winning a major tournament. They seem bitter and I just don't get it - do we always want England to be a plucky underdog? A team that falls at important stages? Pep has positively effected the game so much that many teams & players now try to emulate his methods and the result is raising the standards unilaterally. Rather than celebrate that, then use it to our benefit there are many who resent it, and pray for any moment when we fail. They will all be begging for us to lose in Porto and it's frankly pathetic.

I forgot to add my assessment of Garcia's performance to those most eloquent ones I have read on here. I thought last Friday that he offered the one glimmer of hope for every Newcastle attack but against Brighton he really hit the heights. I have never seen a more completely and utterly useless performance in over 60 years of watching City and everyone will realise that that must include some performances which set the gold standard in uselessness. On Friday he was waving goodbye to a geordie so that Kyle Walker had no option but to concede the penalty. Last night his first contribution was to allow unimpeded passage into the penalty are for the Brighton lad who had him on toast all night. He never made a tackle in the entire game. Then he added giving every clearance to a Brighton player before his piece de resistance, his ultimate comic turnn the uproariously funny blazing-over-the-bar-chance-no-one-could-miss. The only consolation is that this character will be in Barcelona in a month - the first step in rebuilding a team which will dominate Europe next season. Now that is funny.

Please don't give Rodri a single minute in the final unless we're 3 up with 5 minutes to play.
I've said before that Rodri can be very one dimensional therefore easily read. Last night he was and we paid the price.

The officiating was horrific. Attwell and Moss need to be demoted to league 2. Dreadful performance by both.

Why were they booing Foden? He looked angry after he scored and cupped his hand to the crowd. He has never done that before. It clearly motivated him but why would Brighton fans slag off one of England's young stars? Foden is not a cheat and doesn't have a bad bone in his body. In fact you could argue that sometimes he needs to be tougher. You deserved to win last night but it's a shame you tried to kick us off the field.

I have no idea. I think we know the answers to those questions and it isn't "human error" and it isn't incompetence. It isn't even "clear and obvious error" by all concerned. Could it be "cheating"? Or "corruption"? "You might think so. I couldn't possibly comment." So is it outrageous to believe you're right and "the whole process is bent"? I thought it revealing that Pep was asked what he thought of the refereeing when he was interviewed after the match. Even the interviewer seemed "surprised" at the refereeing (but not VAR!).

tbh I have no idea why they were booing him - I found it embarassing and totally unnecessary - I will split hairs about kicking your lot off the pitch - most Brighton fans have said that we needed a "mean streak" in the middle of the pitch, and I think a combination of that and your boys maybe not wanting to fully commit to 50/50s may have skewed this a bit
