Brighton (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Brilliant first half, looked lively and dangerous, brighton reacted in the second half and we seemed to fall away a bit, maybe tired after international duty?

Still three points though, so ok, apart from the officiating which needs a mention.

It would appear that the refs are working at such a low and inconsistent level that it must be policy by pigmol to make this the norm.

A match result now depends as much on the officiating performance as it does a teams performance, and thats damning.

Muddy the waters and gain control, after all most rules come with an "interpretation" clause which allows manipulation which allows control of situations.

If every single decision was the correct one they would have no control at all, I genuinely think they want a certain amount to keep the product palatable for the tv companies and their customers as that is who the product is being sold to.

They could easily automate time keeping for example, eradicating timewasting by means of a play stops clock stops policy using a match clock. It would even give the refs less to think about during the game.

Will they relinquish the control they have over added time in favour of something fairer though, if not then why not?

Everything they do needs making more transparent for the good of the on pitch game.

Good 3 points albeit we didn't capitalise on our first half domination. Fortunately Haaland's fantastic goal proved to be just enough to get us over the line. One or two seemed to tire in the second half, particularly Walker and Stones. Once again yet another strange refereeing performance. It's clear we're opening ourselves up to needless soft bookings and we really do need to wise up and accept the fact that referees will, and do, take every opportunity to punish us and so not give them freebies!
