Bring the Noise

We should so more to make the old Viking Call more powerful like it used to be in 80s. Nowadays it's the 'C-iiii-ty, the best team in the land and all the world' but back in late 70s and 80s we focused more on the 'C-iiiiii-ty' bit and the second part we just hummed the tune. I think we should of course keep the second part but the beauty of the first bit was that it could be dragged out for some time to make it a more powerful C-------------------iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.......ty. I've been at games where the Kippax kept it going for ages and it intimidated the opposition. Away games worked well when we were on an open bank, like Oldham. It's an easy chant; everyone can join in and it's unique. It was our chant, no one else's.
Jeez cheers Gary.. I nearly forgot this one and yes the Kippax kept it going for ages. It was an amazing chant.

I get all this but Liverpool and united fans don’t so why do some of our fans? I agree with an earlier poster who said that part of the issue is ST holders not turning up and tickets then being unavailable for fans who would go.
Anybody who really really wanted to go last night surely could’ve sourced a ticket, your sounding like the old united fan who never went because he couldn’t get a ticket

Totally agree. It was awesome the chant could echo round the ground for 10 minutes before even singing "City, Man City, the best team in the land in all the world".
Da dah, dah.
Da dah, dah.
Da dah, da dah, da dah, da dah - da dah!

There were so many of the normal faces missing in 115 last night, it really was flat in there. 4 home games in 11 days though is a big ask for everyone, but i'm not believing that there were people who couldn't get tickets.

Usually doesn't bother me when we have a bad turnout but cant defend that shambles last night, I'm just glad the players seem up for the title fight because I'm not sure the fans are.Every games a cup final and all that.

Most people who live in the Midlands now have to leave at 3:30pm to guarantee getting to the game. A journey that clashes with the rush hours that once was 2 and a half hours now takes 3 and a half to 4 and a half, sometimes even longer (e.g. Burton) thanks to the M5/M6 roadworks.
Worst is actually the journey home as they regularly shut the motorway on City match nights.

The family stand is doing its job - bringing through the next generations of blues. But as for the other end of the ground it is just not working. Outnumbered the Wolves fans by 3 to 1 but in the south stand but being totally out sang by them was a bit shameful

I don’t know what the answer is and yes I know it’s a problem not just at city

I agree the family stand is a good idea but it does not work for late matches and it never will. The whole issue being raised is the empty seats.

The atmosphere thing is a problem for every prem league team. The make up of a fan is now very different.

City’s issue is most teams defend creating a dull encounter. City fans can be amazing but when the football is one way it’s very hard to keep being vocal. Liverpool game is the perfect example 2 teams attacking creates a great atmosphere.

For some reason last night city singing sections were very quiet they didn’t even bite back to the wolves fans giving us shit! Lol

In my opinion there is no way to change the issue of atmosphere. City can only be pushed by 2/3 teams & let’s face it we will always boo the champ league so we are stuck.

Definitely needs restructuring though now,got to sell tickets on a Level basis, starting at Level 1,that's were the cameras pick up on,or move the family stand although the kids are our lifeblood,so they have to be looked after,I get that, but too many empties in there again last night,it's not good.

However though,to contradict myself a little, who gives a shit if there are empties as long as we win,an extra 2k fans won't get us another goal

Clearly not as my ticket was not sold on the exchange for last night.
I've tried a few times also due to my recent cycling incident and sold 1/3 so it's all about the club for me... If they know the games haven't sold out then why not offer deals for remaining seats... offer them to supporters clubs and schools etc...

Talkshite were going to town on the empty seats last night which I realise is click-bait but the atmosphere last night was the worst I can remember... That's down to us isn't it

Spoke with a guy last night from Milton Keynes... he had to drive because there is no train back.. that's a major issue for travelling blues surely and will impact on numbers

I was in the south stand tonight . What does it matter what stand were in ? It really does make a difference looking at empty seats ? Hopefully the club will try it's hardest to sort out the issue before next season . City have to lower the prices , the season tickets have gone up season after season. We need to attract the young fans with very low prices. I don't care what amazing footballers we have (which if course we do) a lot of people can't afford football, it's a luxury . So City please do what is needed to fill the stadium on a Monday night!!

I currently pay for season tickets in both the South and North stand and see it from both perspectives.
Last night I was in the North Stand with my 11 year old son. This was the third night match in under two weeks for him and I can see how many parents decided it would be better to watch at home on the telly. I don't think lowering prices will have an effect. The majority of the empties in the north stand are families who have season tickets and decided not to attend. They are not doing it to save money. As mentioned in this thread earlier it is also harder to pass on a child season ticket - especially for a night game.

As for the atmosphere generated by the other end of the ground there are far too many people who want to be part of it but don't know how to create it. The Wolves fans did have the advantage that many of them will have been on the pop most of the afternoon while most blues will have come straight from work.

Rambling on a bit now and need to get back doing some work but to summarise I think that last night was disappointing crowd wise but there were circumstances that didn't help. It was a great result however and I think we will have some much bigger/better games in the coming months and last night will be soon forgotten.

If people want to pick and choose their own games, that's their business, but I'm not sure why so there were so many no-shows last night because it's been proven in the past that Monday night games can still see the stadium packed to the rafters. The 2012 derby against United is the obvious example and perhaps not the best example as there was so much riding on it, but even last season when we played Everton on a Monday night in the first home game of the season, there was hardly an empty seat in the whole stadium. That was in August too when plenty of people are still on holiday. I was actually shocked at how full the stadium looked that night.

As for the atmosphere last night, well it was a weird one all round. Was difficult trying to get most songs going, but I was also surprised at how quiet the Wolves fans were on the whole. I suppose the sending off killed the match off as a realistic contest which might've had an effect on the atmosphere. As for someone on this thread saying "it was fucking Wolves", well that's just plain disrespectful and not least because Wolves have been a breath of fresh air this season.

I can definitely see that being implemented soon as well, unless the City Matters reps get a say and disagree

I’m against it, empty seats don’t bother me but the club has an image to protect so will go for it I think.

Awful last night.

For me the major issue with atmosphere is that it seems a large proportion of the 'singers' from SS1 moved up to SS3 when it was built. Now that I've moved back down to L1 from 3 this season it seems to me that you're left down there with mostly older/quieter moaners who don't want to sing. Last night was the quietest I've experienced it I think, genuinely like a morgue. Will probably look to move from where I am again after this season because having to listen to our players or officials (last night Natalie Pike "a woman!" taking the abuse for having the audacity to comment on a football match) getting slagged off all the time is taking away from my enjoyment of the match.

In reality though it doesn't really matter, England is the only country where people give a shit about attendances. Watch virtually any Real Madrid/Barca home game and you'll see empty seats plastered all over the place.

But you'll never see anyone say "They have Lionel Messi, the greatest player ever in their team and they STILL can't fill the Camp Nou!".

I thought the Wolves fans but in a decent effort tbf. Yes quite a few of their chants were very predictable but they were loud for chunks of the game.

From where I was sat in the North Stand/CB corner on level 2, the stadium looked quite full but you can't tell how many spare seats there are in the Family stand level 1 because you're looking down on them. If that's where most of the empty seats were it's hardly a surprise. Spares don't go up for resale until most tickets are sold and I can understand people who travel any distance with kids choosing to miss this one or at least not bring the kids. It's a non-story made into one by the regular coverage of that stand on the TV cameras.
