BT Sport about to snatch the CL off Sky/ITV?

No cl football at home for me then. I simply can't afford that and I'm betting neither can many others

Just be glad you get Sky in the first place. There are some of us who have no PPV channels, and can't watch City at all without going to the games in person.

I dont see how taking Champions League football from 100% of the country to 14% of the country is a good thing even if we did have to listen to Clive and his glorious wank in Barcelona.
People will not sign up to BT for the CL and 38 PL games a season. Sky have been going 20 years and have a far superior program line up overall and have just over 10 million people. They only had 500,000 people sign up before the free BT Sports with broadband deal. Everyone can hate what they want and on bluemoon its Sky but it also being taken away from the people who just have freeview

but in 2015 the new rights will come in for the prem games and I would think that BT will get more games

I don't think Sky will be fucking about when that contract comes out after losing the CL rights. Im thinking come next contract PL teams can probably be looking at another £20 million a year on top again from TV rights

I think we need to look at some of the positives of this deal and there are a few:

SKY have been beaten at their own game - simply outbidding everyone else and having complete control over the football shown on TV.

Competition is good for the consumer - and that's us normal football fans.

City already have an excellent relationship with BT and the recent sponsorship of City Square shows our marketing guys are ahead of the curve. Contrast this with the sycophantic, arse licking approach to the Rags that SKY have...

BT will bundle CL football with their broadband package (the sole reason they have bought CL rights) and some attractive deals will be available for sure (they will possibly offset the cost of this by simply reducing their considerable advertising spend in other areas)

Don't under estimate BT going hell for leather to win even more Premier League games when the bidding comes around the next time. This deal confirms they are serious players and view football as an essential plank of their business model ( as do SKY and without it they are goosed)

BT are not stupid and there will be decent games shown on terrestrial TV for free for at least the first year of the deal.

And as a previous poster has stated - anything that means we don't have suffer Martin Tyler & Niall Quinn commentate on our games can only be good for us!

This deal most certainly has it's positives.

Isn't the reason UEFA are happy with BT is also because BT can provide access to free to air to everyone in The UK, whereas with Sly Sports only people who can watch The CL on SS are subscribers of Sly... advertising revenue will skyrocket for these games if shown on BT rather than Sly.

Absolutely not. UEFA are hugely biased against free-to-air broadcasting. They hate it. The revenue from TV companies buying rights to the games is far more important to them than the amount of viewers looking at the sponsors - after all, the sponsors pay them to get their names on the boards, so it's the sponsors' jobs to actually make money off their brand awareness, not UEFA's.

Remember that it took an Act of Parliament to prevent UEFA dictating that all England games had to be broadcast via subscription-only channels, and even then there was talk of UEFA putting a boycott on England if they passed the law, though they wimped out in the end.

I'm not sure you're right there.

All of Germany's games are broadcast on their equivalents of BBC1 and BBC2, and I don't never recall an issue with that.

So how come BT has 2 000 000 new subscribers since it announced its deal to show Premier League games?

And as for Champions' League being available to 100% of the country, it's only one game out of 16 each round of group matches.

It's only going to be expensive if people are willing to pay for it. Nobody points a gun to anyones head.

I have no sympathy for those who complain about the prices of watching football and then pay, it's self inflicted financial worries.

Great news! Hopefully this spells the beginning of the end for Murdoch's degenerate media in this country.

Nothing would please me more than that Yankee Bruce fucked off from our country altogether and took all of his media and their sensationalism with him, BTP!

Can't afford what though?

There are no prices as yet!

Best thing that can happen.

BT have made a statement of intent and will have to up their game to keep future football rights. Might see more balanced editorials from them?

like their favourite club someone else has come along to say were here, get used to it.
