Budget 2020

nowt on rail.

There was a specific commitment to fund a new rail station at Cambridge South which links into Addenbrookes hospital and science parks to the south of the city centre.

There was also a reference to investing in the Manchester-Leeds rail link, which I am guessing means electrification and/or Castlefield corridor

I suppose specific details and other commitments will emerge in the papers released later on today or in the next few days

It’s a Labour budget with not just a magic money tree but a whole forest. It’s like the last ten years was a waste of time after all. That’s the good news.

Bad news is a likely recession plus a hit to the economy from Brexit (restricting migration, trade barriers etc) as a Brucie bonus.

Think we will need a bigger forest :)

NI Alliance MP and others not impressed. The new NI protocols are going to be a huge problem given the way Govt ministers are ducking the issue. Can’t duck it forever guys.

Not a great budget for NI. Our particular circumstances have not been taken into account. Nothing on APD, nothing to help businesses prepare for the NI Protocol, and only 210m in Barnett Consequentials. Focus must be on public sector reform and investing in key economic drivers

I was going off the live text to be fair.

Sneeked in was the forecast of a recession even before Covid19.

My only comment would be if they spaff this money now what will be left to spaf in a years time when the Brexit contraction starts to hit.

Corbyn makes riposte was fucking useless and counter productive.

He’s admitted the stories have ended austerity which was his main attack previously. Now where does this leave him?

You must be delighted with most of the policies then, Bob?
