Any Schalke fans know if Felix Plater will be playing at the Mini Etihad on Tuesday?
Don´t think so. He is part of the Bundesliga team as long as Huntelaar is out.

As well as Sane I guess

but still hope they will play on Tuesday cause they will need the best team vers the best team in the competion.

;) I think it's just because I love Bavaria and for some reason I decided I support them!

I saw them draw 1-1 on the opening day at St Pauli. Impressive speed on the counter attack
Indeed. However, the defending can be suspect. However much I like Ramazan Oezcan in goal, he's given away two penalties in as many games; granted the one last night was never a pen. Really need to start winning games again, if they/we want to be going up.

There is a lenghty article in the latest issue of the 11freunde magazin about Ingolstadt (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.11freunde.de/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.11freunde.de/</a>)

Not sure if it is actually sold in the UK and no idea how good your german reading skills are, but think it might be interesting for you as a long time Schanzer. ;)

Can scan the article and send it over if you are interested....Just not going to translate the whole thing. ;)

Robben won't win it, but he has probably been the best player in the world for the last year.

Schalke and Leverkusen dropped points again today. The race for the CL spots could get interesting. Wolfsburg look certain to take it and that leaves two spots. Even Dortmund have an outside shot.

That'd be great if you could do that!

Doing a mini Bundesliga tour in a fortnight with games at Fortuna Dusseldorf, Schalke and Cologne.

Fortuna and Cologne are sorted, but we’ll be arriving in Gelsenkirchen mid Saturday morning. I only know the pub on the right hand side as you exit the hauptbahnhof (0-0 v Mainz last season) and a couple of small bars that were arranged for City fans in 2008.

Is there a main drinking area or should we go nearer to the ground?

I’ll be the 5ft7 drunk who thinks he’s funny with the 7ft Evertonian.

Welcome auf Schalke.

You are going for the Hoppenheim game right?

So if you are not going with the Away fans:
´
Although many Fanclubs have their own meeting place,
SFCV (Schalke Supporters Club Association) has two pubs .One on the way to the stadium and one at the stadium.

1.Fankneipe "Auf Schalke"
From GE Train station tram 302 till stop Uechtingstrasse/Schalker Meile
tram stopps in front of the pub "Auf Schalke"

2. Clubheim at the stadium
From GE Train station tram 302 till stopp Willy Brandt Allee (ca.15 Minutes)
ca 300 left in Berni Klodt Way to the Clubheim.

The Supporters Club *and the Ultras meet at

Gaststätte Anno 1904
Kurt-Schumacher-Straße 106, 45881 Gelsenkirchen.
From GE train Station tram 302 till stopp "Berliner Brücke".

http://supportersclub.de/

Another meeting place not only prior a match for Schalke Fans is

Pub "Der Schalker"

A pub on the training ground at the arena (5meters from the training pitch and no far from the Fanshop)
where Schalke meet prior to the match

Weekdays we often sit there in the beergarden and watch the training of the players and have a lunch there

On matchdays its crowed (is that correct English:)
http://www.der-schalker.de/

There are also several pubs north of the city in Gelsenkirchen-Buer

More info in English from Schalke Fanclub UK
http://www.schalke-fanclub-uk.com/

Thats all I have for now but you can also join the official Schalke Forum
http://forum.schalke04.de/
and ask there They have a small English Section

The "Schalker Meile" (of tradition)
20131118-131730.jpg

is perhaps really an interesting place as it is near the birthplace of the club with the historic ground from the 1920s, the historic club pub and the pubs of the fan organizations. It´s also one of the poorest places in the town, so don´t expect any lovely surrounding there.

If you would stay longer, the more interesting pubs are in the northern centre (Buer), three tram stations north of the Arena. Gelsenkirchen was a merger of two towns in the 1920, so it has two centres, which is sometimes a bit confusing for people from outside.

Brilliant!

Yes, we’re going to the Hoffenheim game, as well as Fortuna v Bochum on the Friday and Cologne v Eintracht on the Sunday

Thanks for all your information. We’ll be on an early train from Dusseldorf and I like the look of those supporters bars

You mentioned Schalke’s original stadium. Is that where they played City in the 1970 ECWC Semi Final?

yes, the GLÜCKAUF-KAMPFBAHN

not much left of it,

Haha

Presumably that was a German Shepherd invading the pitch after Libuda’s goal. I wonder if it got a banning order.
Judging from the noise there must have been a few blues in attendance.
Strange hearing Dave Ewing mentioned by a German commentator. Most City fans would associate him with the Bert Trautmann era.

.

Libuda, one of the biggest legends of the club.

It is always unbelievable to see, what was possible in these days. Fans and dogs on the pitch. I love this pictures, fans directly behind the line.

Away fans treated on the pitch for dog bites after invading the pitch?

Last season we were on a train from Hamburg to Dusseldorf (the day that Fortuna lost 6-1 at home to Hoffenheim), but the guard informed us that the train was going to be diverted due to football hooliganism on a previous train.
We later discovered that it was Dortmund fans on their way to Schalke for the Ruhr derby.

I’ve never seen hooliganism in Germany, although there always seems to be a huge police presence and a few burberry wannabees. The locals have always been far more friendly than the dutch, which admittedly came as a shock when I first started watching european football.

By the way, I remember Libuda from the 1970 World Cup. However Klaus Fischer was always my favourite German player.

When Saturday comes... Derby from another point of view.

Sane played and was arguably the best player on the pitch.

The other youngsters who stood out for Schalke were the defenders, particularly the number 2, who seemed to have the measure of City's talented Brandon Barker.

Schalke had plenty of chances, but didn't equalize until added time with a wicked deflection. City's goal also deflected, but was equally a bad goalkeeping error.

See you all at the Hoffenheim game next week.

Currently in the process of becoming a member of "Schanzer" - I'm hopefully going to try and make the first Bundesliga home game if we go up, or 1860 away if not.

Bit sad to see that the first club member in their history will be a fine young Englishman from Manchester! ;)
