yes, folks, you are really great ((((((:

by the way, the new Schalke coach, Andre Breitenreiter, played in that match for Unterhaching and even scored.

The season before Bayer Leverkusen was three points ahead of Bayern and needed just one point from their away match in Unterhaching, but lost 2-0 (with an own goal by Michael Ballack) and Bayern took the title.

Reading this I was thinking about something like a series of Bundesliga "Aguero/Fuck up moments" if our English friends would be interested....

I can contribute at least 3 moments for Frankfurt alone...With the Frankfurt - Rostock match still causing every fan nightmares bit similar to the Schalke/Bayern title race.

@alex: Haching played in the top flight 99/00 and 00/01.
If I remember correctly they did incredibly well in their first season ending up mid table.

Thanks everyone.

I already knew about their involvement in the Leverkusen, but wasn't aware about the Schalke one! I'll have to change part of the article now... :)

I might do another one about Regensburg, although there won't be that much to write about. Or maybe even SSV Ulm!

Well, Nurnberg share with City, the dubious distinction of being the only Champions to be relegated the following season.
1860's survival last season was a combination of Raddy Antic, Trevor Morley, and Paul Dickov.
Schalke's bribery scandal echoed City's in the early 1900s
Has there ever been a German team who've scored and conceded 100 goals in the same season (City 1957-58)

Thanks everyone.

Cologne fans will always cherish the moments Unterhaching (and Ballack) scored these goals to help Leverkusen to retain their 'Vizekusen' status.

Regensburg came to fame after giving away a 2 - 0 lead and let Cologne score 3 in the last six minutes (87., 90., 90+3.) in 2012, probably one of Cologne's most undeserved win ever in the 2. Liga. 4:03 min. :-)

BTW It wasnt Schalkes bribery scandal it was Bundesliga bribery scandal as many more clubs were involved and far deeper than Schalke was.
10 out of 18 Bundeslga clubs were involved.
50 players were fined or banned, six officals and two manager were banned
Many players from for ex Cologne Berlin Stuttgart etc were fined/banned
Schalke players were the only who denied participation and were brought to court.

Did that mean Jahn were relegated, or was this just a game throughout the season? They're on of Ingolstadt's rivals, well not much these days! ;)

It's also one of the only places were the Schanzer fans have used pyro!

If we go down....we go down in style! :)

Fair enough mate I didn’t know.

My first football memories are from the early 70s, and I always associate Schalke with my dad telling me that some of their players were going to be banned for fixing matches.

A few years later there was a Football Focus feature on the overhead kick specialist Klaus Fischer, and the commentator explained that he was one of the players who had been banned.

It’s something that always stuck in my mind, especially as Fischer became my favourite German player.
