The funny thing is that Honigstein is not really well known in Germany.

Could be that he is more known in the southern parts of Germany as he seems to write for the Süddeutsche Newspaper, but in general he doesnt seem to have the standing that he has in the UK. Guess he is pretty unique in England as he seems to be the "go to" insider for everything related to the Bundesliga, but he definitely doesnt have the reputation in Germany that he has in the UK.

The first time I actually became aware that there is a German journo writing for the british press was when I watched a documentary about how football culture in England has changed since the Hillsborough disaster. He had a short interview in this documentary and I found it pretty strange why they would interview a German about English football culture.

He's fairly big over here because he's probably the only real Bundesliga "expert" in the British media. The others who accompany him on the showings of the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga are either ex players like Hargreaves or just general European "experts" like Andy Brassell. There's usually one for each major league over here, like James Horncastle for Serie A and Julien Laurens for Ligue 1. Honigstein is the Bundesliga equivalent.

who on earth had the idea to send HSV to Bayern for the opening match? Selling this all over the world it is the worst marketing for the Bundesliga one can imagine. Why not Mönchengladbach for example.

Well I thought HSV were going to do well until the 25th minute! :)

Atlas with the red shorts being dire again this season it's another team who could finish below FCI! Confident about tomorrows game, both Fuerth and Braunschweig won at the Coface and Paderborn drew there so hopefully we can repeat either of them!

Costa will be a great buy for Bayern. When they bought him I wondered what they want with a player who plays in a non competetive league at Donezk, but he seems to be on fire all preseason already.

Second round of the cup was drawn as well...Bayern play in Wolfsburg.

Amd we have our annual trip to the Schachtscheisser in Aue. :(

Go Aue Go :)

Schalke- Gladbach btw
Thursday Europa League Sunday in Gladbach in the league Tuesday or Wednesday vers Gladbach DFB Cup
Nice Program

I dont mind Aue but its not exactly the most exciting fixture. Last time we played there in the cup we went out 3-0...and its not like we havent played there already a couple of times when we were in the 2nd division.

Would be nice to get a chance to see a new ground...Jena, Reutlingen, Rattenball, Viktoria Köln. :(
