Apologies if this has already been asked guys, but I don't follow this thread constantly.
I was reading a couple of things yesterday about how Bayern dominated the Bundesliga and are raiding Dortmund for players, and the article's line essentially was that in spite of it suddenly appearing as one of the top leagues in Europe again, the fact that no-one can touch Bayern and that German FA rules prevent sugar daddy owners means that the Bundesliga is doomed to be a boring one-horse race for a number of years to come in spite of the attractive football and the energy of the crowds, and it was going on about how no league can truly call itself great if one team dominates it. This was not an article written by a German, and it quite possibly was written by an English guy seeking to justify the PL's tag as "the world's best league". Is this how actual German fans see it, or do you think that the Bundesliga is on its way to the top, etc?
Well....it depends on how you define "top". It is true that the league might become a boring one or two horse race (if Dortmund doesnt fuck it up) in the future as I don´t really see anyone else than Dortmund challenge Bayern.
Dortmund should be able to establish themself as a constant participant of the Champions League and with the extra money, some sensible spending and
a bit of luck they might be able to stay up there.
Behind those two the league is pretty open and last season showed that you dont have to spend big to be able to compete for the Euro League slots/Champions League.
Other than that the league gets some deserved attention as the football on display is (mostly) exciting, there is a lot of german talent around and the attendances are huge. Huge attendances mainly due to the fact that going to games is much more affordable than going to a PL game.
It was mentioned already a couple of times on here, but on average the Bundesliga crowd is a lot younger than the PL crowd as in England its mostly the lads in their 40-50s who are able to afford going home and away.
So if you define top as entertaining, then the Bundesliga is definitely on the rise, however if you define top as "multiple teams challenging for the title" it definitely isnt.
The funny thing is that Bayern stated last season that they are interested in a league with decent competition and don´t want it to become a one horse race...Just to buy Mario Götze from Dortmund a week later. :)
But thats just my 2 cents and lets better not get into the "sugardaddy" discussion again as it is bound to cause a huge shitstorm. ;)
