I wonder what kind of 'masks' they wore.
Was it the cartoon-head style, superglued to the head comedy type, the traditional balaclava knitted by their gran or one of them niqab/hajib/burqa type affairs?

It would be funny if they had all worn Frank Sidebottom papier mache heads.
If only to watch as the Keystone Cops of Greater Manchester Police arrest the residents of Timperley, just to be on the safe side.

20 years ago I lived in Johannesberg, if you get burgled over there your life is in danger and your female family members have a good chance of being raped whatever the age, yes even 90+. so you have to be prepared to kill to defend yourself and family. luckily the courts over there would not bat an eyelid if you shot and killed four intruders. strangely enough this did not put would be burglars off in the slightest! I had a machete selotaped at the back of the headboard and various other weapons hidden all over the place, luckily I never had to use them but would not have had the slightest hesitation in doing so.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a shite about the dead burglar?

If you don't get masked up and break into someones house, the person who lives there will not be forced into an action that results in your death.

Am I wrong?

No your right. Its all well and good a judge saying your actions were OTT if you kill someone but in the heat of the moment when its dark and your missus and kids are asleep upstairs you pick up whatever weapon you can and keep hitting until they either run off or are unconscious/dead.

As far as i'm concerned breaking into someones house is an unreasonable act , i don't see why the householder should be reasonable in his response.

Taking back my library books back late is an unreasonable act,but I would be unhappy if the girl behind the desk unleashed an AK47 salvo by way of punishment, when I was merely expecting a 37 pence fine.

And therein lies the problem , people think they should be able to break the rules without retribution.

Just on the off chance that my local library have a differing view of 'reasonable force' to myself,I shall heed your advice and let the missus return my books, given that the woman on reception always looks sexually frustrated, and in this hot weather probably only needs the slightest excuse to blow some poor sod away.

What's a judge got to do with this? It is the members of the jury who have total discretion as to whether those actions were OTT. 12 people like you and me. Who is better placed to understand if those actions are reasonable?

I presume you would feel that in most circumstances that people are entitled to do what is required to defend their home. Then in those circumstances you would acquit. I fail to see how anyone can see anything wrong with that system.

So I assume that if your 17 year old who has just done a 3 month stretch in prison was shot dead whilst breaking and entering a dwelling you would be happy with the outcome, and say he deserved his fate?
I would be careful what I wished for if I were you mate.
