Burnley (A) | Post Match Thread

Interesting to see Pep and Haaland having an animated discussion at half time - they are both perfectionists and hungry and by definition clashes like that are inevitable - remember this is after a treble winning season - but would rather see that than the shoulder shrugging passive gestures you see from other “top players and managers”
If the gurner did it with Salah, Sky would be creaming themselves about the "passion" he was showing.

Listen to the audio, it wasn't a clash at all. Haaland was annoyed at Bernie for not putting him in, Pep was telling him to stop sulking it was half time and they were two up and Bernie was just making sure they went in with the lead. Nowt in it, I imagine Pep looks animated when ordering a Chinese.

So what was the formation?

Ederson was in goal - Haaland was centre forward - but inbetween everyone was everywhere

Kyle Walker gets better, I hope he stays, played FB, CB, AR
Akanji - mainly CB, but sometimes strolled into Modfield
Ake - CB, LB, LM and caused confusion to create third goal
Lewis - what a player we have here - a couple of dodgy moments as the ball was fired into him in awkward positions, but that just shows the trust the other players have in him - but the rest of the time he was everywhere down that left side and and just so good.
KdB - deep Midfield (I think) but as ever RM, AM, LM and a worry to see him pull up injured - we can manage the first part of the season without him - need him fit and ready after Christmas.
Rodri - the best player in the world -
Bernardo - RM, CM, gave us more solidity when he moved inside
Alvarez - seemed to start beside Rodri! then moved up beside KdB, less effective as LM great set up for Haaland's 2nd, not sure where he will settle
Foden - LM, RM - but then a free role which brought him into the middle - final touch was a bit sloppy but he will take KdB's place and flourish
Kovacic - just slots in - great signing
Laporte - CB - he's better than a fifth choice - I expect him to move but great to have him in the squad if he stays
Gvardiol - I thought he was a CB - played LM until Walker went off - so looking forward to seeing him start - some nice touches.
Palmer - AL - neat and tidy - but want to see him play on the right more.
McAtee - not sure if he got a touch - but good for him to get on.

Burnley look OK, but they need to take advantage of their good pressing and create chances and they need to defend set pieces better or they will be in big trouble.

Surprised it was easier than I thought it would be,Haaland again has reset and started the season with a bang especially the second goal,as for Burnley when they acclimatise to the league taking points off top 6 teams ..

Thought the game was poor but result obviously excellent. Haalands movement deserves more attention from the midfield going forward.

Have to be careful we don't burn out Phillips:-)

yep that was weird, showing the amount a club had spent in their entire history against our spend on centre-backs.
Who comes up with this shite?
They have spent half their miserable existence in the lower leagues - so how on earth are they going to persuade a £70 million CB/CF/GK etc to play for them - even if they had the cash ?
