Burnley (A) | Post Match Thread

Yeah I don't think it was particularly malicious or anything like that but at the end of the day it's a high boot with your studs up and you caught his leg and if you misjudge the force of that, you can break people's legs and that's why they try to stamp that out of the game and give automatic red cards for it

Desperate lunge or not, it was a bit high
top of his calf high with no attempt/chance to play the ball and his body not under control.
Straight red all day every day which was a shame as Burnley had played the game before that- no time wasting, no dirty play and no collapsing every time they were touched.
The refereeing was a pleasure to watch as a result and its a long time since I thought that of a PL game.

Don't say it

Deserves more than a like.

Take a bow.

Wonder if Grealish isn't 100%. Seemed strange him not getting on the pitch at all.
He has an issue with his hip, since end of last season, that’s what was said on 93:20 podcast It adds up because he was rested for games at end of season but played in all the key games

Better result than performance, with no unit within the team firing on all cylinders and a few individuals looking distinctly rusty. Fact that we still won so comfortably should worry the pretenders to the throne.
Playing this game mid/late season when fit and needing the result without a CL game 48 hours later would have given us a cricket score.

We did them with a half team last year when they were buzzing, if this is the best the Championship can offer it gives Wolves/Everton a very good chance if surviving.

A really good performance against a tough opening-day opponent. Vinnie had a clear strategy to stop the build up and it worked, for large spells: we were more nervy than usual in possession at the back, and it definitely had an impact on Akanji and Lewis, leading to a couple of turnovers of play. With that strategy, having a target man like Erling can make all the difference, and it did. In addition, a target man only works with support willing to break the lines to receive the pass, and Phil and Alvarez did that really well. Phil's ability to turn away in an instant led to goal number two and he had a really good game. MOM was Rodri, of course, and there is a strong argument to state that he is currently the world's best player. He is currently a PL champion, the CL winner, and POTY, an FA cup winner, and the Nation's league winner and POTY; he is simply imperious.

In answer to the Twitter clickbait merchants, in the 25 most expensive PL transfers ever:
Manchester United 8
Chelsea 6
Manchester City 4
Liverpool 3
Arsenal 3
Newcastle 1

The narrative simply no longer washes, and never really did.
Surprised by there being so few from the dips.
